Expanding your tastes? (listening to music, alternative, house, indie, jazz)

I've really been getting into british indie rock like the kooks and the raconteurs, as well as alternative folk (Kimya Dawson, The Moldy Peaches)

avenged sevenfold was a step too far for me when I listened to them for my friends sake

I do lurveee the Slits.

At the moment i'm in a phase of listening to all of the ultra classic critically acclaimed albums that i haven't heard yet. Next on my list is Prince - SOTT.

yeah because they are in with that whole scene, although they don't sound similar they often come up together in conversation. Give them a try!
