Best Artist: Round 2: Poll E

Polls open for two days, only 17 polls this time around, vote for your favorite etc etc etc.

I vote for Et Tu Brute because Pink Floyd is going to win anyway.

jackhammer 04-28-2008 06:29 PM

errrmmm...errrmmm...errrmmmm. I just can't decide.

Urban Hat€monger ? 04-28-2008 06:31 PM

I had to choose between Bad Brains , Can , Jesus and Mary Chain and Jimi Hendrix in the last round for THAT? :(

Alfred 04-28-2008 06:37 PM

Et Tu Brute

Lizzie 04-28-2008 06:41 PM

I'm really really torn between Library Tapes and Et Tue Brute....

Inuzuka Skysword 04-28-2008 06:43 PM

Hmm Et tu Brute, Comus, and Pink Floyd...my gosh this is tough,

Floyd will definitely win so it is either Et tu Brute or Comus. Something tells me Comus has no chance of winning so I guess I will go with Et Tu Brute.

sweet_nothing 04-28-2008 06:46 PM

Pink Floyd since they aren't really winning now. & Syd is awesome

swim 04-28-2008 06:54 PM

Has time stopped? I can't believe this

LAWL SKRAMZ BEETIN PROGZ

I mean really wow.

GravitySlips 04-28-2008 07:08 PM

pink floyd

like them all though, except Library Tapes (never heard them).

Comus 04-28-2008 07:33 PM

Comus :(

CAPTAIN CAVEMAN 04-28-2008 07:45 PM

another one for et tu brute bitchez

The Unfan 04-28-2008 09:01 PM

Pink Floyd, but Library Tapes are close.

boo boo 04-28-2008 10:17 PM

Floyd.

cardboard adolescent 04-28-2008 11:42 PM

had to go with the obvious choice...

comus.

Zer0 04-29-2008 02:42 AM

Ah Pink Floyd of course :D

Piss Me Off 04-29-2008 02:55 AM

I don't know who half these artists are.

SubPop 04-29-2008 07:41 AM

Floyd

ProggyMan 04-29-2008 09:24 AM

I vote The National. Haven't heard any Comus *hinthint*.

boo boo 04-29-2008 11:00 AM

Comus are a 70s prog band.

And they are so obscure even I didn't know who the f*ck they were until recently.

You indie kids sure pick the most random/obscure bands to obsess over.

cardboard adolescent 04-29-2008 12:03 PM

the only one obsessing over comus is comus, and he's a proghead.

don't be such a paranoiac. there is no indie conspiracy.

boo boo 04-29-2008 12:12 PM

*mumble mumble*

cardboard adolescent 04-29-2008 12:17 PM

in any case, i'm not going to try to convince you they're better than floyd, but they're probably the most captivating folk-prog band i've heard and definitely the darkest prog band. can you give me any folk-prog you think is better? (that's not as much a challenge as a request)

boo boo 04-29-2008 12:24 PM

Only heard like one song, and it sounded like a Jethro Tull song being performed by midgets on acid (a compliment not an insult). Think you can send me First Utterance?

EDIT: Never mind, downloading it now.

British_pharaoh 04-29-2008 12:36 PM

How is Screamo garbage second?

boo boo 04-29-2008 12:46 PM

So yeah, I haven't heard Et Tu Brute, so I look up their Myspace page, right then I hear this dreadful noise and tuneless screaming. Then I realise this is their "music".

So yeah, somehow this band got 8 votes. You know, if this crap is an example of that "having taste" Ethan was talking about that defines this whole forum, then you know, I don't know why I should even be here anymore, maybe I should delete my account.

Farfisa 04-29-2008 01:20 PM

Yeah I know who's not gonna win.

Et tu Brute are honestly my 2nd favorite hardcore band ever. They only came out with one demo that didn't even have that good production. You honestly didn't listen to the whole demo so it is no wonder you cannot appreciate it.

GravitySlips 04-29-2008 03:09 PM

Et Tu Brute are pretty cool, but I'd take Comus and Floyd over them any time.

hahahaha, you have got to be fucking kidding me.

please, do delete your account.

boo boo 04-29-2008 07:29 PM

I could just say I was exageratiing, but I'm afraid not.

I'm certainly not exagerating when i say this, when I came upon their Myspace page what I heard was so bad that it has actually made me right on the f*cking spot completely lose all faith in music, and without that what do I have to contribute here? Not that I ever contributed anything to begin with, save some prog ed thing that no one ever reads anyway.

In summary, Et Tu Brute has opened my eyes, music is meaningless and it has no purpose anymore except to be used as a font for "being cool". Nobody listens to bands they genuinely enjoy anymore, rather they pick out the crappiest obscure bands they can find so they can say "I'm hip, I hate all popular music and only like obscure stuff" and because you have made a habit out of mentioning the same talentless piece of crap bands over and over and over again that some poor saps are tricked into buying/downloading one of their albums, and they f*cking know it sucks but they pretend to love it so as not to seem like a douchebag to the person who recommended it to them, and because they want to be "cool", so these poor saps recommend the same bands to other poor souls who become trapped in this pointless cycle of "being hip" that goes on and on until eventually this godawful musical abomination against god somehow becomes popular.

This has pretty much been the entire history of Indie, Hardcore and Emo music.

So I bid you all a final farewell, for this bands epic sh*tiness has made me lose all hope in music, I now have nothing to live for, and I will now take my own life, I don't know how yet, but I'll try to make it as dramatic as possible. Oh I'll know, I'll choke on my own ****. Goooood bye, cruuuuuuuel wooorld..... *gasp*

CAPTAIN CAVEMAN 04-29-2008 08:14 PM

you fucking moron. you clearly have no idea what that sort of music is about. believe it or not, people like this music NOT because it's "cool" to like something no one else knows about, but because they LIKE THE SOUND. WOW. for some reason, you can't seem to get your head around the idea that people have opinions, and that whether music is "good" or "bad" is subjective.

who do you think you are listening to ONE SONG by a band, and then telling me the basis of pretty much all the music I like is wrong because of some preconcieved notions YOU have about it? myself and many others don't ****ing listen to it because it's "cool". never once have i tried to look "cool" or more intelligent by name dropping any band - sure, there are some ****s who DO do that, but not enough for you to base such a huge attack on the whole genre. as well, never have i gone to the lengths you have, ever, to insult a whole genre or even a band to the extent that you are.

get the fuck over yourself you pretentious piece of shit.

PS: the sarcasm wasn't funny

boo boo 04-29-2008 08:18 PM

Clearly you're not a tr00 ***, or you wouldn't be calling Indie a genre.

And I'm really getting you off I it seems, do you act like this towards everyone that has a big rant you don't agree with?

Wow.
Please, oh please, just leave already

This is the most retarded thing I've ever read on here.

How do you know if people actually like what they say they do? I know for a fact Et Tu Brute loved what they did whether you like it or not. Obviously they're not that obscure if 8 people voted for them on here even though we have a somewhat lacking emo forum and a number of people who voted for them aren't even emo forum regulars. It really seems to me that you're the pretentious one.

boo boo 04-29-2008 08:31 PM

Well unfortunately for you I'm planning a violent revolution off pissed off prog fans who hate every musical sub-culture in existance. Current membership partaking in this revolution = 1.

swim 04-29-2008 08:33 PM

mmmm so what's wrong with communities?

boo boo 04-29-2008 08:40 PM

Everything.

Basing communities around music, its incredibly stupid, pointless and ultimately dangerous. It divides all us music lovers into seperate, warring groups.

And its sh*t like that that leads to hateful Prog fans ranting about Indie fans.

swim 04-29-2008 08:51 PM

That's the point of music, to play what you like with your friends. That was the whole point from the beginning of music! We can't forsake that and say that music is solely for entertainment. I consider myself part of several different musical communities in several different towns. It doesn't divide. I mean by definition communities bring people together. I mean only ignorant people who make bland stereotypes of the people in other communities and think it's some sort of competition are divided. I believe in diy and friends not fans. I honestly don't like that much indie by the way. I'm much more of a folk fan idealist.

CAPTAIN CAVEMAN 04-29-2008 08:53 PM

@boo boo

are you that stupid? do you actually think people won't organize themselves into groups depending on musical interest? sure it may "divide all us music lovers", but that is inevidable.

it is not the fact that there are different communities based around musical genres that leads to "hateful prog fans ranting about indie fans" - it's assholes like you who just can't keep their mouths shut.
