Nickelback also has catchy pop, rock tunes. As for Meat Is Murder, it sounds like The Smiths are unsure of themselves on this album, which can be quite a mess at some points. There are some high points on the album, although they're too often ruined by repetitive musical ideas that lack hooks and melodies.
Their debut album has an energy and excitement that Meat Is Murder lacks. In other words, The Smiths is an astonishing album while Meat Is Murder is a big dissapointment

Believe it or not not every statement someone makes on a forum has to be a deadly serious attack on another artist. I don't really care in all honesty, i could think of a lot worse artists to beat The Smiths in a popularity contest. It was just a light-hearted comment and i think that was quite obvious.
Nickelback do, as do other brilliant artists, so don't try and provoke me there.
Hooks and melodies are all over the place on MIM, and repetitive music ideas can be said to be throughout The Smiths' back-catalouge, fact is they're beautiful well written pop songs and thats why i adore it so much.
The debut IS astonishing, and in many ways i hold it in just as high regard as the others, its just the production sucked a bit out of it so thats why it loses out in my battle for the favourites (have a listen of the Troy Tate Sessions, the first take on producing it if you like it).
