Oh right ****. I didn't look at the thread title, bit pointless having that really.
*facepalm*

NWOBHM. 'Nuff said.

Does the poll include instrumental music? I guess not, as in that case language would be irrelevant, but just to be sure (one never knows...).

But that's a good point anyway: another poll for outside the Anglosphere would be interesting too.

I think it does include instrumental music. I'm pretty sure the reason the poll just focuses on the anglosphere doesn't really have to do with understanding the lyrics or whatever. It think it's more about (a) keeping the number of choices in the poll down to a reasonable number and (b) sticking to music that the majority of people on MB share a common familiarity with.

So not the UK then. Got it.

Historically the UK has produced great artists.
not so much any more.

America birthed jazz, and the "San Francisco Sound".
It'd be between those for me, but I'm probably sheltered when it comes to European Music.

That seems like an odd assessment of American music. What about rock? Hip hop? Blues?

And what about Classical (from 1783 on)? There are real big names in US: Leonard Bernstein, George Gershwin, Samuel Barber, Elmer Bernstein, John Cage, etc. At the other side of the Atlantic there are great composers too, such as Gustav Holst and Edward Elgar, but I personally would tip the scales in America's favour.

It is now I look back at it.
Especially seeing as I'm a big fan of classic rock, rock and roll, blues, and hip-hop.

I still honestly don't think it matters one little bit where the band comes from, so long as the music is great...
