I saw a Chet Baker song posted in the Top 5 of Anything Thread, a track called 'You Don't Know What Love Is'. I would like to get into this Baker chap a little further. Now usually I would wiki him up and try siphon through the bull**** to pick an album from the discography however I would much prefer the learned opine of someone who knows his music. Could somebody recommend me something of his to listen to?

If you like melancholy music try "Chet Baker Sings", I also like "Chet Baker In Paris".

Post-rock is really good! I find it very orchestral and soothing! Mogwai and Sigur Ros are kings of it, but not forgetting God Is An Astronaut, of course!

Built to Spill, Manic Street Preachers - Those I have already. I'll try the rest, but The National? I never got it why people recommend them to me, most of their songs are really, really slow and unexciting.

Thanks for your recs.

The National might grow on you dude, give them a chance. I agree though I wasn't sure whether you would fancy them based on the bands you listed!

I'm in a desperate mood for new music, so could anybody recommend me some new artists?

Here's some artists that I already listen to:
The Mars Volta
Porcupine Tree
Devin Townsend (already listened to Strapping Young Lad)
My Morning Jacket
The Decemberists
