What Other Bands / Artists might I like? can you recommend?

Hello, unfortunately I very rarely like british chart music and as a consequence I find it difficult to find music that I enjoy listening to.

So based on what i like now could you music buffs recommend some music I might like. For example, chris rea recently advised me of ben harper who i think is good, but only the album 'fight for your mind' seems to be what I like at the moment.

I will write a list of what i like. Often what attracts me to a song is catchy guitar licks (as i play guitar) although I am not a fan of solos, i like melodies. I don't like angry music, punk, modern uk chart rock bands, or metal. i like rock, blues and alternative music. if you are in usa i may not have heard alot of big bands that are american because for example DMB are not famous in the uk

dave matthews band - these are by far my favourite I can listen to the same songs over and over.
stevie ray vaughan
jakob dylan (only 'seeing things')
clapton (only unplugged album)
chris rea
ben harper (only fight for your mind)
led zeppellin
alanis morrisette (only jagged pill)
santana

i am looking for artists that i have not heard of, unlike popular artists like nirvana, oasis, bb king, muddy waters, joe satriani, tommy emmanuel, pearl jam, metallica, pink floyd, green day etc...

thanks for your help

Can anyone link me to some good Japanese music? Preferably pop, alt rock or emo. The only thing I have is Envy. PM some links, cheers.

You shouldn't rule out Pink Floyd. Shine On You Crazy Diamond (parts I-V) was the most original song I had ever heard when I first did. It's a masterpiece. You should totally check out these:
-Johnny Winter
-Don McLean
-Elvis Costello
-Bob Dylan (if you haven't alredy)
-Neil Young
-Creedence Clearwater Revival (especially Have You Ever Seen the Rain, it's beautiful)
-Jimi Hendrix
-Billy Joel

Enjoy!

I don't think he's discounting Floyd; he's saying he already knows of them (and maybe enjoys them) but wants suggestions for artistes he doesn't know.
Least, that's how I'm reading it...

Does anyone know of people doing some modern peeps doing Groovy and funky tunes. Sorta like like Sly and the family stone, Isaac Hayes, Kool & the gang stuff like that even Curtis Mayfield.
