So what's there to be said about this smug self satisfied slapheaded tax dodging serial marriage serial divorce paying-out purveyor of slack jawed middle of the road dross.

Smug musicians are bad enough , a smug drummer is just taking the piss.
I would go into detail about his musical career but I have a very important appointment to have my toenails curled , as opposed to having my toes curled which is what will happen if I set foot anywhere within 200 meters of a Genesis album.

And he's partially responsible for the worst song and music video ever made. A song lamenting the plight of illegal aliens...by using every cartoonish stereotype of Mexicans they can think of.

"In particular, the second stanza of the bridge — in which the immigrant suggestively offers sexual favours from his sister in exchange for admittance across the border — has been edited from radio versions of the song, as well as from the music video version."

what a ****ing joke... thankfully, I never heard that song (or saw the video) before.

You know, if I can imagine anyone who REALLY hates Phil Collins, it would be Peter Gabriel.

67 : Great Artists From The 60s And 70s Making Terrible Records In The 80s

I actually have a theory about this.
I think around 1977 after having all credibility and relevancy stripped away from them by the arrival of punk most of these old farts retreated to their country mansions into a drug induced coma that lasted for about 6 years. When they came out of them the whole music scene was an entirely different kettle of fish and with punk & new wave out of the way they all went out and bought big shouldered pastel coloured suits , rolled up the sleeves , got their hair permed and highlighted and set about showing the world that they could compete with these young whippersnappers like The Smiths & The Cure and whatever pop fad was happening at the time , with hilarious consequences.

Of course one group of men excelled at sucking in the 80s , and that was the prog rockers. Somewhere along the way these bands suddenly decided that they were bored of harp solos , 45 minute epics about elves and playing to arenas full of bearded virgins and decided what they really wanted was some pussy at their gigs. and what better way to attract pussy to your gigs by making radio friendly rock anthems & ballads , so they did. You can't really blame them because it worked. It caused their fan base to choke but nobody really cares what they think. After being gobbed to oblivion by punk what better way to announce your still around than to have girls shaking their titties in your music videos.

The 80s , we'll never see it's like again ... thank God.

Well, King Crimson, Camel and Rush are some of the exceptions, they had some excellent 80s stuff, I wont deny that Yes pretty much sold out in the 80s, but at least their first two albums of that decade were decent, then they made one of the stupidest pop songs of all time with Big Generator.

Jethro Tull and Moody Blues in the 80s however, well I'm not even f*cking gonna talk about that.

62 : The Other 3 Blokes In Coldplay

WHO THE HELL ARE THEY?

As much as I can't stand Coldplay you can't dispute their popularity. Their albums are some of the most eagerly awaited records this century.

I mean the singers done alright for himself , A hollywood wife , endless media interest , tons of charity work , cameos in TV shows he's got the lot , he's living the rock n roll lifestyle , even if their music is about as rock n roll as your average Roger Whittaker album.
The last I checked the records had COLDPLAY written on them , not The Chris Martin Band or Chris Martin the solo project. To be so in such a band and to remain so anonymous is astonishing , you'd have to be REALLY fucking boring to be able to pull that one off. I mean John Deacon in Queen was the boring one in that band but at least you knew the guy's name. I don't have a clue what the names of these three guys are. If someone came up to me and asked who John Deacon was i'd say without batting an eyelid 'oh he's the bass player in Queen'. If the drummer in Coldplay's mum came up to me and said (As I have no idea what his name is we'll call him Jeff Smith for the sake of argument) 'Do you know who Jeff Smith is' I wouldn't have a fucking clue.

So come on you three , stop being so dull and make yourselves known.
Get caught snorting coke off a porn actress's tits in the toilets of an award ceremony.
Trash a few hotel rooms
Punch out Martin's wife after a 4 day drinking binge
Dump a supermodel by text
Call Liam Gallagher a cunt in the press

Just DO something.

Whatsitoosit 08-29-2008 12:08 PM

Good call Urban.

I agree with a lot of your general rants. But I find that a lot of the ones on bands in general is just for the sake of going against popular opinion. I mean c'mon. Primus, RHCP, Pearl Jam. You can't find worse bands to hate on? I mean you don't have to play the Nickelback card like everyone else, but c'mon.

Right about Coldplay though.

I hope you are not talking about "Aim High Shoot Low". That is a great song.

Yes I can , but I have 100 spaces to fill so the obvious ones go in too.And I am trying to go about them in a different way rather than just go this band sucks blah blah blah.

Anyway this isn't about what I hate , this is about what irritates me. There is a difference , obviously the more popular bands I dislike I hear more because of their mainstream status, thus irritating me more.

And i'd hardly call Primus obvious , look how many people I upset with that one :D

And I put myself in it , what more can I do?

Well I understand stuff like this is for you to kill boredom for the most part, so it would be no fun without pissing people off. You already got me covered with the Roger Dean one. :)

Urban Hat€monger ? 08-29-2008 12:26 PM

And the ultimate irony is if you hadn't reminded me how much I hate Roger Deans covers it probably wouldn't be on the list :D
