Define your taste in <140 characters.

I thought it might be fun to do this with twitter rules. This means that the post must be <140 characters in length. Describe your musical taste, and by taste I mean what you think good music is.

I’m a sucker for the classics, timelessness is greatness. A true artist must learn to balance ying (talent) and yang (reason).

jackhammer 08-25-2008 05:48 PM

Nice idea. Unfortunately I'm a little too mashed at this point to do myself justice ;)

simplephysics 08-25-2008 06:00 PM

I like music that doesn't sound like ****.

The Unfan 08-25-2008 07:58 PM

Shit.

StrangeOvertones 08-25-2008 08:05 PM

There's two kinds of music. Good music and bad music.....I like the good music :)

Gates_of_Iscariot 08-25-2008 11:18 PM

stuff that makes your mom mad, but on the inside it makes her a terrible animal, just raving for more...lol

Son of JayJamJah 08-26-2008 10:48 AM

Any and all types may apply: Wanted; Rhythm that moves, Soul that Soothes, Horns, Strings, and it helps if they can sing.

100 Characters, Good concept for a thread.

lucifer_sam 08-26-2008 11:23 AM

I like music. And beer.

WolfAtTheDoor 08-26-2008 07:38 PM

Music that makes me think how **** life is so I go out and change myself, then come back to the music and think 'oh how silly I was that day I changed myself!'

joyboyo53 08-26-2008 08:00 PM

(this is an example of when i don't know what word is suppose to go in the ****, maybe i'm naive or stupid)

Janszoon 08-26-2008 08:01 PM

Music that transports me and is unique. I care more about texture and rhythm than melody or harmony. Electronic sounds usually appeal to me.

I'm guessing it was "shit".

Minstrel 08-26-2008 08:59 PM

Pop aesthetic: harmonies, hooks, melody. Also, layered and textured sound. And great rhythm. I like most things, but psychedelic rock and pop, shoegaze, Madchester, dreamy electronica, '70s punk and hooky guitar pop and rock tend to be my favourites. But I'm always looking for something new and different...experimental music like Captain Beefheart and Glenn Branca is a lot of fun to listen to. I can listen to and find something to enjoy in almost anything (as long as the lyrics aren't bigoted).

But ultimately, an immediately catchy and memorable three-minute pop song (whether the Beach Boys, Teenage Fanclub or Sex Pistols) is my first love.

I'm guessing that's way more than 140 characters.

Oh, I misread. I thought 140 words. My mistake, sorry.

Wifey Boozer 08-26-2008 09:34 PM

I love anything with soul, or a reason behind it, raw stuff, mostly older stuff, because it's a bit more real to me without an alterior motive (out to make a buck, etc).

guitargirl_93 08-27-2008 01:51 AM

Anything from 80's hair metal to electro funk. But, some songs are annoying. Basically anything that isn't Rap or Country (a few exceptions.)

stevesonthebay 08-27-2008 05:51 AM

music that moves my soul, talks to me, shakes me reinvents me.

WaspStar 08-27-2008 05:53 AM

There are too many exceptions. I hate country but love the first John Prine album. I hate bloated, pompous rock but love Who's Next. I don't care for dance music but like New Order. Etc.

stevesonthebay 08-27-2008 05:55 AM

oh **** i forgot about the 140 characters long. ah 77777777///'''''''']]]]====999---%%%###@@@@&&*()%QQ@$^&^&$&*^%&%^WE^#$VGEvbt
is that i40, i lost count.

joyboyo53 08-27-2008 06:53 AM

MODERATOR can someone please add (< 140 characters) into the title of this thread.... since people have a tendency to stop reading the first post after it gets longer? Thanks.

Piss Me Off 08-27-2008 09:17 AM

I like anything that makes me want to dance, laugh, cry, makes me calm, pumps me up, makes me think, helps me not to think, makes me trip out, blows my ears off.
Genre is not an obstacle.

(I think that's 140 exactly!)

Whatsitoosit 08-27-2008 09:47 AM

Genuine music, from the heart. Music that just shows off w/out substance is useless. Have a theme and/or a message, stay on track unless it makes sense not to.

boo boo 08-27-2008 01:10 PM

Everything, complex music, expressive music, music that breaks convention, but also tasty pop and no thrills rock n roll.

jackhammer 08-27-2008 01:41 PM

My tastes are ridiculously eclectic but not always fashionable. Not that I give a damn. If you don't like it then don't listen.

This sounds EXACTLY like what I imagined you would put.

Sneer 08-27-2008 04:53 PM

interesting thread idea, also impossible

Mordoth 08-28-2008 02:00 AM

140? How about this instead? No.

Honestly, that absolutely defines my musical taste.

mr. goth glam 08-28-2008 07:39 AM

I like music that fuels my desire to write

online_music 08-28-2008 08:33 AM

I like ONLY good music ;)

^I think this may be my favorite one so far. :)

Mordoth 08-28-2008 10:40 AM

Good music sucks.

xallixoliverx 08-28-2008 11:54 AM

Music that has amazing lyrics, yet sounds good too. Like Bright Eyes.

But what is "good music"?

I agree. Most music that is "good" does suck. "Good" music is music that everyone listens to. Most people think music is "good" because everyone else listens to it.

OR... music that a particular person thinks is good and nothing to do with what others think. That's how I took it.

Traveling Bandsman 08-28-2008 10:37 PM

I like basically anything that doesn't classify itself as Death Metal, Mainstream Rap, New Country, or Teen Pop

FireInCairo 08-29-2008 01:41 AM

my taste...hmmmm....bitchin!

Duke Of Slander 08-29-2008 02:01 AM

Eclectic. As. ****.

"Good music" is "nice" music. "Good music" is music that can esaily be ignored. "Good music" doesn't challenge people. "Good music" sounds pretty and has no further depths.

God, I hate "good music."

lucifer_sam 08-29-2008 12:31 PM

If your primary reason for listening to music is anything other than personal enjoyment, suffice to say your head is so far up your ass I'm surprised you could manage to hear it at all.

joyboyo53 08-29-2008 01:09 PM

One of the best things about music is that everyone likes it, and that can only be said about a few things in life. I could see how if you worked in the industry it might get awfully boring though... take something you love and make it your job and you might end up hating it.
