I totally agree with this. Any instrument can be used in a way that is fantastic, hell I've even heard kazoo done in a way I enjoyed before.

So yeah, hooray for all the prog bands that aren't afraid of cranking out a bichin' Fiddle solo. Gentle Giant, Hawkwind, Roxy Music, Magma, Caravan, Mahavishnu Orchestra, Comus and David Cross era King Crimson.

EDIT: Not the David Cross you're thinking of.
Haha. I just had this awesome image in my mind of the other David Cross playing with King Crimson.

Never been big on those guys to tell the truth, I gave His 'n' Hers a listen and just didn't care for it. Jarvis Cocker is an amusing personality though.

I forgot to mention John Cale, he deserves a shout out.

#60. Showing Off

No matter what way you phrase it. We all like showing off. What the hell is last.fm for than to shove our tastes and finds in everyone's faces and why not? You make a compilation for someone and you are tickled pink that you have slipped a complete obscure band in there just to get a musically infused metaphorical hard on.

It's not always the case and if you listen SOLELY for this reason then you are a twat but let's be honest. We all like to drop a new band name into a musical convo and get an ego boost when everyone is fawning all over the band.

#59. Noise Rock

Noise Rock has been around before Punk. Music that is cacophonous without applying itself to one strict genre is a constant draw for many of us but it is all too easy to lose the energy and literally pour feedback into records.

The far east bands however have become masters of this genre with many bands using an abrasive sound to escape the confines of their regulated society and Melt Banana are generally regarded as one of the best bands in noise Rock.

There is no doubt that Melt Banana rely on their 'kooky' sound and energy whilst Noise Rock is enjoyed by the Western world. However, ramming lots of feedback into a song for the sake of being abrasive is easy to do and misses the point.

Being cohesive and listenable whilst still sending EQ's into the red is no mean feat and Japanese bands seem to do it with ease. Boris, Les Rallizes Dénudés and Acid Mothers Temple have definitely pushed the envelope regarding distortion but you know what? I still like to hear a fully formed song now and again and Melt Banana remain distinctive enough to bear repeated listens.

Just the same as Metal is not everyone's thing, so Noise Rock is an acquired taste but hearing a band that is crushingly heavy yet have an easily identifiable song make up is no mean feat.

A Melt Banana album is an ordeal on itself if you don't like the genre, yet they are individual and just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to dissonant music.
