1984 - the year i started to take music seriously

Goofle 06-14-2012 08:44 AM

2002 is the best in recent memory, but I have really enjoyed 09, 10, 11 and 12 (so far), one of them would probably have been my choice.

Geekoid 06-14-2012 12:22 PM

Overall, my favorite years in music would have to be:
'66, '69, '77, '79, '84, '85, '89, '91, '95, '98, '04 and '06.
It's tough to choose.

Every year listed in the poll was a good year for music. The best? No idea as nearly half the music I hear for the first time each year is from a different year. Seems like I'll always be filling in gaps. Plus I have a bad memory for album release years.

Plankton 10-29-2018 09:22 AM

If yer talkin Rock, then it's 1974.

It's a scientific fact.

Zhanteimi 10-29-2018 05:25 PM

1971, without a doubt.

windsock 10-29-2018 07:24 PM

'71, definitely. 90% of my favorite albums growing up have been from 1971, like:

Traffic - The Low Spark of High Heeled Boys
The Beach Boys - Surf's Up
The Guess Who - So Long, Bannatyne
Pink Floyd - Meddle
Roy Harper - Stormcock
Santana III
Yes - Fragile
VDGG - Pawn Hearts

...and those are just a few. '73 was also important for my big prog rock years.

cakaser 10-29-2018 07:25 PM

I think it is 1998 .

It's hard to choose, but I'd probably say a tie between 1988 and 1990. Ended up voting '88, but I'd still say it's tied.

1988 was one of thrash and metal in general's best years, with these being just some of my favorites from said year:

Anthrax - State of Euphoria
Slayer - South of Heaven
Megadeth - So Far, So Good...So What!
Voivod - Dimension Hatross
Razor - Violent Restitution
Helstar - A Distant Thunder
Deathwish - Demon Preacher
Overkill - Under the Influence
Saint Vitus - Mournful Cries
Soundgarden - UltramegaOK
Judas Priest - Ram It Down
Danzig - Danzig
Pantera - Power Metal
Airdash - Thank God It's Monday
Suicidal Tendencies - How Will I Laugh Today...

Gah, forgot about Mahavishnu, Zeppelin, Can and Egg in my post. Great albums. Magma , ELP and GG are too, albeit to a lesser extent.

Probably 1997 when the pinnacle of music came out in the form of an album known as, oh, I don't know

BillySparks 10-30-2018 07:22 PM

All Mod Cons came out in 1978. I can't think of anything else to add.

Gameoverluke 10-30-2018 07:53 PM

1994 - Nirvana, Pearl Jam still about - Punk Rock broke

[MERIT] 10-30-2018 08:30 PM

Something much more recent for me. 1980 to 2018. Somewhere in that span.
