'71, definitely. 90% of my favorite albums growing up have been from 1971, like:

Traffic - The Low Spark of High Heeled Boys
The Beach Boys - Surf's Up
The Guess Who - So Long, Bannatyne
Pink Floyd - Meddle
Roy Harper - Stormcock
Santana III
Yes - Fragile
VDGG - Pawn Hearts

...and those are just a few. '73 was also important for my big prog rock years.

It's hard to choose, but I'd probably say a tie between 1988 and 1990. Ended up voting '88, but I'd still say it's tied.

1988 was one of thrash and metal in general's best years, with these being just some of my favorites from said year:
