Last FM Library

Lets see if this works. Take the user who posted before you and listen to their Last FM library (found under their recently played tracks). Listen to the first 5 tracks that come up and put them down here along with some comments on the tracks you heard. A good way of finding new stuff/rediscovering forgotten gems. Then out down your Last FM if you haven't got it in your sig so someone can do yours.

Mine is in my sig :)

Bulldog 11-26-2008 08:59 AM

Ok, here goes;

Stone Roses - Made Of Stone
Haven't heard this song in ages. An old favourite of mine.

My Bloody Valentine - Only Shallow

An area I haven't really gotten into, but I can see myself doing so now.

**** Buttons - Bright Tomorrow
Another one I'm officially unfamiliar with, but probably not for much longer - very interesting, kind of industrial-noise tune this. I reckon I'll be investigating further in future.

Big Black - The Model
A noisy rendition of Kraftwerk's classic - loved it :thumb:

Morrissey - In the Future When All's Well
Not so much of a Mozza fan. I liked this song though - sounds a cool album judging by this.

Some great taste you've got there man.

Yeah, my link's in my sig too

FaSho 11-26-2008 09:19 AM

Talk Talk-New Grass
A little too chillout for me, good track in it's own right though.

Tinariwen-Amidinin
Never heard of them before, but it had a really catchy tune so I might have to check them out.

Midnight Oil-When The Generals Talk
Freaking amazing. I will definatley be listening to more of Midnight Oil.

Bruce Sprinsteen-Backstreets
Not much of a Springsteen fan, but this was passable.

Public Image Ltd.-Seattle
The only PIL song I really like, nice choice.

Mine's in the sig, be careful though, whenever I listen to my library it plays some of the worst songs in my collection.

only_dancing 11-27-2008 06:23 PM

Hollywood Undead - No. 5
Didn't really like this one. It has kind of funny lyrics, though.

Gorillaz - Feel Good Inc.
Hmm, I've thought about listening to more Gorillaz, but I don't know. This song was meh. D:

AFI - Girl's Not Grey
Lol, oh god...

Hollywood Undead - Undead
I couldn't make it through this song. Can't stand screaming.

Thrice - The Artist In The Ambulance
I don't like this one much either.

Wow, I'm sorry all of those were negative.

Link's in my sig.

jackhammer 11-28-2008 03:35 AM

I only usually listen to whole albums though which would'nt give you a good idea or could you just choose randomly?

I guess i'm doing yours because nobody has said anything since.

Joy Division - Shadowplay
Love this song , the fact that it's a shitty live recording being played a bit faster just makes it even better.

Syd Barrett - Here I Go
I don't remember this song at all , must be one of those mid album filler tracks.
Which is what it sounded like.

Brian Eno - Everything Merges With The Night
It's off Another Green World which automatically makes it awesome.

Kanye West - Late
*Vomits*

Wire - Feeling Called Love
*Orgasms*

Not even Kanye West could spoil this list
A ++++

Flesh Is Money-Swans
An okay jam.

This Guitar Says I'm Sorry-Soledad Brothers
Great tune, may have to check out more of their work.

A Coming Age-The 1900s
Like a lot of the stuff I've been getting into lately, almost as good as Sufjan.

Pretty Soon-Koushik
No.

Back Home-Funki Porcini
Couldn't make it through the whole song.

More bad then good, B+

sweet_nothing 11-28-2008 12:51 PM

Forever the Sickest Kids- My Worst Nightmare
Ive never liked this band, they remind me of Fall Out Boy. So yeh I didnt like it at all.

Bowling for Soup- The Hard Way
I'm not really liking this one either, and are all the bands you listen to from Texas?

Say Anything- Spidersong
Pretty mediocre, tbh

The Beach Boys- Surfin' Safari
Ive never really cared for the Beach Boys but this was better than everything I listened to before this.

The Aquabats- My Skateboard
This song brought back some memories, I good ska song. My favorite song of everything I listened to.

Overall I didnt like what I heard, up until the Beach Boys it sounded like I was listening to a modern rock radio station.

FaSho 11-28-2008 12:54 PM

Aww I love Spidersong. Don't know how BFS ended up on there, can't stand them.

Richter Scale Madness - ...And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead
Hm, not too bad. I know I didn't like them before, but maybe I'll give them another try...maybe.

Prince With A Thousand Enemies - ...And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead
Your libraries forcing me to give them another try, isn't it? :P Yeah, I like this song less than the last one, I think.

Sailor - IAMX
Three way, freeway, take me like a sailor. Love that song, haven't heard it in a while.

Kiss and Swallow - IAMX
Haven't heard this song in a while either. <3

Quiet Life - Japan
Boys. <333 Love Japan.

I know you listen to a lot more variety than that. Silly library. :(

Sorry, I would've tried to make it five bands but it was just annoying skipping so many times between songs. I tried!

only_dancing 11-28-2008 01:54 PM

Ugh, Pornographie Nouveau is making me listen to his library again because apparently I did it wrong...

To The Kill - Violent Femmes
Love the Violent Femmes, haven't heard this song in a while. <3

Lulled by the Numbers - IAMX
Pretty good. I think it' sone of my favs on The Alternative if I remember right.

Up the Hill Backwards - David Bowie
Lovelovelove Scary Monsters. <3

Destroying Angel - Sneaker Pimps
Not bad, I need to listen to them more.

Designed to Kill - James Chance and the Contortions

Methods of Dance - Japan
OOOOH OHHHH OHHHH METHODS OF DANCE : )

Street Waves - Pere Ubu
Better than the album I have of theirs

Mother Whale Eyeless - Brian Eno
Breno <3

Mongoloid - Devo
lol devo. coo'

Alfred 11-28-2008 02:14 PM

Wire - It's So Obvious
I've been meaning to get into this type of stuff more, and Wire is one of the bands I want to check out. I like this track, and I think I'll have to look into them.

James Chance & The Contortions - My Infatuation
Didn't like very much. It had some good moments, but I didn't find it all that enjoyable.

IAMX - Song Of Imaginary Beings
Very dreamy. I will have to remember to look into this. Enjoyed it very much.

My Bloody Valentine - Soft As Snow (But Warm Inside)
I only have Loveless, but as I can hear by this track, their other stuff isn't all bad either. Enjoyable.

Kraftwerk - Trans Europe Express
Some people here seem to dig them, and I can see why. I also enjoyed this.

Bulldog 11-28-2008 04:22 PM

Millencolin - Stop To Think
Better than a lot of skate punk I've heard, but it still didn't really do a lot for me I'm afraid.

Sparta - Cut Your Ribbon
Not bad, again not really my kinda music though.

Envy - Shield Of Selflessness
Again, not really my area of music.

At the Drive-In - Bradley Smith
Ah, At the Drive-In! Pretty decent tune this, again in a genre I know next to nothing about.

The Clash - Should I Stay Or Should I Go
Well, it's the Clash ain't it. Classic track.

only_dancing 11-28-2008 04:29 PM

Stars of Warburton - Midnight Oil
Not too bad, but I'm not really a fan of Garrett's vocals.

I A Rebel Soul - Aswad
Kind of like this, I don't normally like reggae much, but this is kinda cool.

Green Flower Street - Donald ***en
It's alright, kinda funky.

Free Fallin' - Tom Petty
Lol this song...

Gratitude - Paul McCartney
Sorry, I'm biased against Paul and I'm not going to give this song a chance. :(

FaSho 11-28-2008 04:41 PM

Giggy Smile-Faust
Really not my style.

Mutterlien-Nico
Never really got into her stuff that wasn't with VU.

Is It In My Head-The Who
Never got into the who.

Here Comes The Warm Jets-Brian Eno
Better then the first three.

The Flow-Prince and the New Power Band
Great track. By far the best of the five.

Bulldog 11-28-2008 06:14 PM

Ludo - In Space
Not really my thing I'm afraid.

AFI - Charles Atlas
Just about all my flatmates are really into these guys. They're not exactly my style, but this is a decent enough tune.

Gorrilaz - Every Planet We Reach Is Dead
Demon Days is a top album - great track.

Finch - Grey Matter
Again, not really my thing.

Coheed and Cambria - The Crowing
I wasn't really feeling this one either.

sweet_nothing 11-28-2008 07:03 PM

David Bowie- Life On Mars
My fav Bowie Song :)

Buzzcocks- Real World
My fav pop punk band, I hadnt heard this one before but I'll definitely be looking more into this band.

Black Uhuru- Sinsemilla (live)
Pretty cool reggae track, I think i'll look up the studio version.

Radio Birdman- Anglo Girl Desire
I really liked this one, I didnt even know Australia had punk in the 70's.

Stone Roses- Made of Stone
I love the Roses, my favorite band of the Madchester scene, and a classic number, great ****ing album, whish I could say the same about 2nd Coming.

Overrall, I really liked what I heard. :thumb:

:eek::o: I am a shattered man. Has The Saints been sadly confined to the dustbin of Punk history?

Radio Birdman made a great mark on Australian music but The Saints were forerunners. They deserve to be mentioned in the history of the genre. They were playing fast driven 3 chord thrash and claimed the influence of the MC5 and the Stooges as early as 1974. They put out a single, (I'm) Stranded, independently in 1976, long before some of their contemporaries. There has even been a TV doco here about (I'm) Stranded. Geldof said they were an influence.
Perhaps a history and a few album reviews are in order in the journal.

Sorry to go off topic.

Couldn't find 4ZZZ's so,
tightlyundone's library:

Organized Konfusion - Stray Bullet

Looks like I picked the right person. Some tight underground hip-hop, this is Pharoahe Monche's original group, been meaning to cop some of his stuff. Track is ****ed

Of Montreal - She's A Rejector

Only have the genius Sunlandic Twins, this is what you want from your Elephant 6 really. Electronics are more prevalent but well-used by this band.

Dean Martin - Dream

It gets better. Rat-Pack crooner, this is pure. Nice and hissy. Scott Walker follower here so it's always good to trace it back and get some education.

Michael Jackson - Wanna Be Startin' Somethin'

YES. One of my favourite songs from one of my favourite pop landmarks. Ace. 'You're a vegetabllllle....'

Japan - In Vogue

A glammy synth group I never got around to, this song was so-so, but I know they have much better songs. Unfortunately was unable to hear the lyrics =/

FaSho 11-29-2008 06:55 AM

Weapon of Choice-Black Rebel motorcycle club
I like it, I've been meaning to get into them.

You get what you deserve-The Siddeleys
Loved this, I'm definatley checking them out.

All Alone-Gorillaz
Always been ne of my favorite Gorillaz songs.

To Be Free-July
Another great band I haven't heard of, might have to look into them.

Metal Mothers-Guided By Voices
It was okay.

Their next two albums are better (Gentlemen Take Polaroids and Tin Drum). I think they had some growing pains on that album (Quiet Life).

FaSho 11-29-2008 04:04 PM

Good Clean Fun - My Best Friends
Meh, a lot of this stuff all sounds familiar and not in a good way.

Silver Jew - Smith & Jones Forever
This was ok, needed something to make it stand out a bit.

Nirvana - Smells Like Teen Spirit
An ok-ish song but not as good as a lot of people made it out to be back in the day. I usually skip this if I ever play Nevermind.

Lupe Fiasco - Kick, Push
Again, this was ok, the production was good and I like the backing track.

The Cure - Wendy Time
Not the best Cure track, but Cure nonetheless. Pretty good, best track out of the five I listened to.

Edit: Afterwards I skipped through some tracks and there are some good stuff i there

only_dancing 11-30-2008 12:17 PM

Streets of Sorrow/Birmingham Six - The Pogues
I've never heard this, I like it. Maybe I'll get something by them.

Under the Boardwalk - The Drifters
Awhh, I haven't heard this song in a long time. <3

Make It Easy On Your Self - Burt Bacharach
Hm, I don't know if I like this or not... haha. Maybe I'll listen more and see if his voice grows on me, or not.

Armagideon Time - The Clash
It's okay, kind of boring.

Joy Ride - The Killers
I haven't heard any of The Killers' albums aside from Hot Fuss. I'll have to get more, I like this.

Piss Me Off 12-01-2008 08:58 AM

The Who - Early Morning Cold Taxi: Nice enough, nothing i could get excited over though.

Talking Heads - Houses In Motion: I have to be in the mood for this album but when i am it really hits the spot.

Caravan - Love To Love You (And Tonight Pigs Will Fly): S'alright, in the same boat as the Who song.

Gal Costa - Cinema Olympia: I like the retro 60's sound, very Austin Powers :D

Carl Orff - O Fortuna: Fucking hell, epic! I respect anyone who would casually listen to this.

classylady 12-01-2008 09:23 AM

This is Piss Me Offs Libary, I couldn't find a link to classyladys.

Stevie Wonder - Higher Ground: Fantastic song, what more has to be said?

The Rolling Stones - Sympathy for the Devil: I have always been quite undecided on the Rolling Stones, I had completely forgotten how lovely this gem was.

Napalm Death - Instinct of Survival: I have never really been into Napalm Death, this song doesn't really change my opinion, sorry.

Goldfrapp - Utopia: I have always liked Goldfrapp, I reall love this song though, and the rest of the stuff from Felt Mountain.

Big Black - L Dopa: Very powerful song indeed, it's tugged on my curiosity. I'll have to download the album

FaSho 02-08-2009 03:22 PM

I'm reviving this thread!

Super Furry Animals-
Great great track. I'll give more of their work a listen.

The Beach Boys-God Only Knows
It's by the Beach Boys of course i love it!

Grandaddy-He's Simple He's Dumb He's The Pilot

I like the style, but It's been done a lot better.

Nick Drake-Know
It was okay, not terribley good or bad. It didn't really stand out.

DeVotchKa-Twenty-Six Temptations
I love me some DeVotchKa, but this one bored me.

Molecules 02-08-2009 03:36 PM

FaSho's liberry

Violent Femmes - Please Do Not Go
Heard the name around, was good to catch some. I felt cheated as there were no femmes in the band to speak of :(. Still definitely up my alley, folky indie/punk. Mm. Acoustic bass solo!

Sadistik - Playing God
Sounded like Mike Shinoda from Linkin Park (yes I remember his name) in one of their 'deep' moments. But better obviously. 90% of contemporary white rapper's voices annoy me beyond reason, and this had some soppy keyboard string production which only worked against it... sawwy.

The Smiths - Hand In Glove
Stone cold classic from my favourite Smiths album by miles. Brings back memories!

Johnny Cash - Don't Take Your Guns To Town
Unfortunately Last.fm picked a really grainy old recording which doesn't flatter his booming voice... standard Cash really and not up there with my faves off San Quentin.

System of A Down - ATWA
This was a very nice surprise, I used to have this on CD but somehow lost it. I will rectify this immediately and read Lucifer_Sam's article as I listen. In school I didn't really take on board the lyrics at all, I just liked the fact they had hooks coming out of their arse.

Mojo 02-08-2009 04:00 PM

Moleclues beat me to FaSho's but as I had finished I may as well post them both.

FaSho
Explosions In The Sky - Catastrophe and the Cure
A band I frequently listen to myself. Love it.

Goldfinger - Miles Away
No. Sorry. Not my thing at all. Pop punk stuff generally doesnt interest me and this is the same. Awful lyrics too.

Nirvana - Come As You Are
I've never been a huge Nirvana fan to be honest but I can't argue that this song, and this album is decent to say the least. Good, just not something I ever CHOOSE to listen to.

JamisonParker -Best Mistake
Awful.

Carter The Unstoppable Sex Machine - Anytime Anyplace Anywhere
I dont get this at all. Especially the vocals, they are God awful.

Moleclues
The Adverts - New Church

Sounds like a lot of punk stuff from that era, nothing special about it or anything but it was decent enough.

Jens Lekman - Rocky Dennis' Farewell Song
Hmm, not doin anything for me.

REM - Radio Free Europe
Another fairly decent REM song that I wont necessarily criticise because theres not really anything wrong with it, but it wont convert me to the cause im afraid.

The Young Knives - Rue The Days
Whats with the "La la la" **** at the start? It sounds terrible. Harmless enough song but a little too mediocre for me.

Lootpack - Crate Diggin'
I'm not into much hip-hop and so I have time for any hip-hop I hear that I might like. I'm not sure if I like this enough to check an album out but maybe. I liked this.

mannny 02-08-2009 05:47 PM

Mojopinuk's library

Helloween - Haloween
Not really my thing at all, especially at 12 minutes.

Jimi Hendrix - Who Knows
It's Jimi, what else needs to be said? Great track, and one that I haven't heard much of at all.

Testament - C.O.T.L.O.D.
Not my thing, I can't really get into most metal.

The Sabres of Paradise - Smokebelch II
I liked this a lot. I've heard a bit of them but have never tried getting into them before.

Iron Maiden - Prowler
Never been a fan of Iron Maiden, this was ok but nothing special.

CAPTAIN CAVEMAN 02-08-2009 07:38 PM

mannny's library:

CocoRosie - "South 2nd"
i liked this. heard this group's name, but never checked them out... good stuff. sort of like joanna newsom, who i like. gonna check out more stuff.

Beck - Dead Melodies
wasn't terrible. didn't like it, though, not a fan of his voice.

Semisonic - Closing Time
haha... i remember hearing this when i was younger. not my thing.

The Beach Boys - Sloop John B
couldn't enjoy this.

Donavon Frankenreiter - Fool
sounds familiar. not sure where i've heard it, but i don't like it; boring.

James Brown - I Don't Mind
i found this interesting since i'm not familiar with a lot of old music, but i wouldn't really listen to it.

EDIT: had an extra one in there.. my bad

CAPTAIN CAVEMAN's Library.

I'm using this post as a placeholder in case someone decides to do one before I get done. I'll edit after 5 songs. :)

Oh, and JdGun’s Music Profile – Users at Last.fm

Tera Melos- Melody 3
LOOOVE the drumline and Mellow guitar. I will definately look into em.

Ooh do I love you- Cap'n Jazz
Ummm...interesting. Singer reminds me of Less than Jake.

Glen Branca- Light Field (in Consonance)
I'm probably just ingorant of the genre but it felt like that violin line being beaten into my brain. I got sick of it halfway through, but I decided to listen to the whole thing. I'd probably like it if it weren't so damned long.

Phoenix Bodies- You've been hamburgled
OH GOD NO.

Esmerine- History Repeating as One Thousand Hearts Mend

FFFFFFF....Shiiva knows I'd get stuck with a 16+ minute instrumental song. I'm just not one who truly appreciates good quality timbre.
Anyways, after six minutes of nearly all whole note cello and marimba, the violin comes in, things finally start to get a little more interesting. Nine minutes in it gets more percussive, which gave me a tad more patience with the track. Marimba melody 13 minutes in is actually very nice. Like the case with Glen, I think I would really like it if it were shorter, as it really got interesting near the end.

And there we have it, 30+ expanding my musical horizon. I thank thee sir.
Also According to last FM we have ZERO artists in common. Lol, doesn't surprise me, our tastes are definately different.
