Are you satisfied?

Are you satisfied with this generation (edit* 2000's) of music when comparing it to past decades? Its a simple question

Minstrel 12-02-2008 07:18 PM

Depends on how you define "this generation." But assuming it means anything like the 00s, the last decade or since 1990, then yes.

jackhammer 12-02-2008 07:38 PM

Every single decade has merit. You just have to dig deep.

Sister Ray 12-02-2008 07:54 PM

gotta say no on this one...

FaSho 12-02-2008 08:31 PM

how can you not be? Music has always been good, music will always be good.

I'm going to second this and add that not only does this decade have plenty of quality music but music is more accessible than ever which I think is pretty damn cool.

Thirded.

Surell 12-02-2008 09:39 PM

Fourthed.

Son of JayJamJah 12-02-2008 09:40 PM

They are what you make them, this thread is a reaching a consensus.

Comus 12-02-2008 09:55 PM

Yes, for every terrible mainstream bands there are tens of very good obscure/fringe bands that are making incredibly solid albums. Every decade has had a slew of dreadful music.

dac 12-02-2008 10:51 PM

Am I satisfied with the decade that pumped out what is likely my favorite era of music? You bet.

Laces Out Dan! 12-02-2008 10:58 PM

Im most definitely satisfied. I agree with Dac.

Zer0 12-03-2008 04:10 AM

I have to say no.

Most of the music around today just does nothing for me (with a few exceptions of course), compared to music from say the 80's or 90's. Most music today is just a rehash of old ideas and is going nowhere in my opinion.

Double X 12-03-2008 04:56 AM

Hey then what are the absolute whoppers of this decade? Foxtrot Hotel, Is This It, Beck stuff...anything else? I say this because I haven't heard many albums from this decade so I am unsatisfied...I need to find these albums :D

Zarko 12-03-2008 05:14 AM

Just like any decade, as said, crap under rubble.

The funny thing is, everyone says how easy it is to get access to music nowadays... Well IMO it has helped the old gems a lot more than it has new music overall. People spread the love of golden oldies quickly on music forums, and its easily accessible without trudging through all the crap of previous decades.

In a few years, people will be showing off the stuff they found at the start of this decade, and it will spread like wild fire...

I HOPE people here aren't suggesting they found all the great music they like the first few weeks after it came out... Coz I would smell some BS :p: :D

This Decade is an incredible leap forward for music.
gets more interesting every decade.

TheBig3 12-03-2008 07:15 AM

Yeah, I only think of homogeny when I look back.

Because of RYM, yes I did as a matter of fact.

Bulldog 12-03-2008 09:37 AM

It's been an alright decade for music I suppose. Some killer, some filler, but it's pretty much the same for any decade. I vote yes then...

mr. goth glam 12-03-2008 10:38 AM

Yeah, I'd say I'm pretty satisfied.

I listen to a lot of stuff that was before my time, but I've also, over the past eight years, discovered a lot of truly remarkable music that is singularly particular to this decade.

There's been some bad, of course, but certainly not enough to overwhelm the good.

Piss Me Off 12-03-2008 11:10 AM

I'm definitely not satisfied with this Music.

Senile 12-03-2008 01:31 PM

Rap is'nt dying out. How absurd. It still churns out plenty of chart crap but the underground scene is as healthy as ever.

I see it dying. The hit radio stations are playing more Rock and less rap. i dunno...just seems to be less of the hip thing to be listening to now. But i agree, underground is thriving

I don't think it's anywhere close to dying. Anytime I see any current top 10 or top 40 list or whatever there's usually a ton of rap on it, it's not going anywhere any time soon.

ya i guess your right....atleast there is still good music out there :)

WeeLittleHobbit 12-03-2008 03:56 PM

I think there's plenty of good music out there today. Alot of the mainstream stuff out there is utter crap (with some exceptions, such as Coldplay), but I really dig alot of today's underground bands, such as Arcade Fire, Interpol, The Dandy Warhols, The White Stripes, The Black Keys, ect....

anticipation 12-03-2008 04:00 PM

about 40% of the music i like has only been around since the 90s, so heck yeah.

Correction: Those are bands that used to be underground. Currently underground bands would be artists like Darker My Love or The Warlocks.

I'm talking about in the 90's etc... And there will surely be more stuff from the 00's that you find in a decade that you love then but didn't know of now.

Alfred 12-03-2008 07:42 PM

Yes, I'm loving this decade.

Comus 12-04-2008 08:39 AM

As my tribute to the decade I'm doing 10 reviews of 10 albums from different genres that have been spawned in the noughties. Check out my journal, have one done so far, just awaiting approval.

Urban Hat€monger ? 12-04-2008 12:24 PM

I don't think it's been better or worse than any other decade.

I'm just harder to impress these days.

Maddest_Hatter 12-04-2008 01:15 PM

I don't think these new bands coming out are nearly as good as past decades. I mean, the 70s gave us the Ramones, the Misfits, Black Sabbath, Pink Floyd, and Rainbow. The 80s gave us Guns N Roses, Metallica (Hey, they were good back then!), Iron Maiden, and Overkill. The 90s, gave us Chris Cornell, Eddie Veder, and Kurt Kobane.

You know how when you get old guys have trouble getting it up... Well for Urban it's the same thing, only with music.

You're right, there's way less crappy grunge music this decade then there was in the 90s. Personally, I think that's a good thing.

CosmicKid 12-04-2008 08:45 PM

As far as the popular scene goes no. But there is a lot of unnoticed underground talent.
