The Mars Volta, maybe not de-loused, but more progressively they have become different than any other bands.

Good example Comus. I'd say early Sigur Ros maybe, and anything Tom Waits puts out is pretty unique.

Tera Melos is pretty original.

The only band that really sounds like them is Hella, and that's only with the stuff on Drugs to the Dear Youth.

I don't think there's any such thing. All music is built on the foundation of music that came before it. Even the greatest innovators have their influences.

The title makes no sense and the useless OP needs to learn to do more than post a title and then '?????????' as the first post.

Marnie Stern. El Guincho. Animal Collective.

Meh. It's a dud question really. As others have said, everything is building on some other foundation. It's more a question of degree. The question is how different does such and such sound from other music of its type?

The Velvet Underground, My Bloody Valentine, 13th Floor Elevators.

edit: sorry, I misread the question, god I'm stupid.

Oh god i knew i'd get a few boring old bastards saying 'oh but all music has influences yadda yadda yadda', of course it does, but that odesn't mean that a band can do something unique with those influences even if you can hear a slight hint of those influences in there sound.

I'm sorry but the title does make ****ing sense and i don't see why my input is necessarily needed on the first post.
