Oh I have a theory.

Even as a fan and while they're very damn good at what they do, they play it safe, they're undeniably a commercial band, and they have a kind of sound that should be accessible for anybody, but it's one of the main reasons people hate them I think.

I agree with that theory Boo Boo and I do like the Eagles myself though I'm probably biased as I grew up listening to them as a kid.

Hmmmm i see what your saying but people usually use it when talking about music thats very poppy or commercial. I've never heard anyone say 'ooh The Minutemen are a real guilty pleasure of mine'.

I think a lot of what that has to do with is still liking music you liked as a kid but recognizing that if you had been an adult when you first heard it you probably would've thought it sucked. I know that's the case with my relationship to 80s pop and hair metal for example.

Exactly but as I have pointed out in another thread. You get to a certain point in your life and don't really give a crap! I like some music that is not acknowledged as the best and probably quite rightly so. I also like a ton of music that I know deserves a ton of accolades and I will still get berated for. so the thing to strive for is dedication to those artists that you love.
