We can only hope. I don't know what the numbers are like now but I can't imagine they've earned more viewership after TRL lost its appeal.

I used to watch MTV over my gramma's house when I was little (think back to MTV News, Beavis and Butthead and Celebrity Deathmatch). I don't think I've turned the channel on in about eight years or so; I wouldn't have the faintest idea what kind of crap they have on now.

I perosnally care not for the charts, nor much for MTV in its current form... just a bunch of vaguely music - related reality shows and as for the charts... well i never really was into the whole popularity contest notion that surrounds musics...

I think MTV has to maintain its relevance like any other TV network... I think they've nicely diversified their programming to appeal to a broad range of veiwers, and they have a whole heap of different channels now, so i think MTV as a broadcasting institution will survive for many a year to come...

The charts.... well... if it keeps relevant to the media that is becoming the most common method of transferral (ie Mp3s, file sharing) the charts might maintain their importance... I personally think people care less and less every year about chart position and just wanna hear a good tune...

The mainstream rock that most of us have known for many years or even most of our lives is becoming quite cool with many younger people these days .. You know, teenage girls with cigarettes, a lot of metal in their belts and Thin Lizzy T-Shirts. I'm not really sure what to think about it. I guess most are posers, but maybe it's not too bad. The old, popular punk bands like the clash, ramones and the pistols have always had a steady youth following here for as long as I've liked music.
