Also, is there a limitation to how much that you can listen to (like Pandora limits it's free users to 40 hours of listening a month)?

for free account it's 20 hours/month and a limit of 5 plays per song. plus there are ads.

for premium it's totally unlimited.

but i can't for the life of me figure out how to rip the audio files from the cache. they have some pretty rare stuff!

My invite just arrived. This is a really impressive service so far!

I ended up getting the Unlimited $4.99 a month service package which so far has been pretty awesome. Sure there's some things that I haven't been able to find, but this will probably severely cut down on my downloading usage.

Damn! I'm missing out on the fun!

I'm surprised at the catalog size here! I would never expect some artists to be here. Now all I need is something to get a premium account.

Edit: Ok, it's official. I love this.

Paloma... thank you so much! You are like a god to me right now. I've been waiting for an invite since the day after spotify came here... didn't realize I could get in that easily.

i coughed up $10 to try out the premium service. it's pretty damn sweet.

i heard a great song the other night. normally, i'd get on my music site and download all that band's albums in flac, tag them, get album art, throw it all into foobar, transcode the flac to mp3, and throw it on my ipod to check it out while at work. even if i didn't end up liking the albums very much, i probably wouldn't delete them out of my music library after all that hard work...

instead, i opened Spotify on my PC and on my ipod. my PC immediately started talking to my ipod wirelessly. i selected the band's 3 albums, threw them into a playlist, and "synced" it to my ipod (what actually happened is my PC told my ipod to cache the audio data for those albums). i listened to them at work, and decided i'm not too impressed. so i just added the one song i liked to my Spotify favorites, and deleted the playlist with the rest :)

the selection is good, the speed is good, and it's easy to use. it's great for listening to music i only care to enjoy once in a great while, or for checking out new music before downloading them from What.

i'll see how much i use it this month, but i think i'll end up keeping my subscription...

Spotify is good, it's a good concept and useful, but i've not had an experience as glowing as you guys...Could just be a UK thing though...
They've put tonnes of restrictions on the free version, which is sad as you now only listen to a song 5 times and you're basically forced to join as you've built up playlists etc.
Also there are so many adverts now it's unbearable.
There are many artists who don't have songs on there though
Also it tends to crash a lot, both my friends premium account and on the free one - in varying locations so can't just be internet connections.
The search functionality isn't very accurate
I will start paying as it's a good way to get music, but surely they'll lose loads in advertising now though, but better for artists who put their songs on here.
