As for Killing Joke comparison to Nirvana, I think it's there but it's not too much that it could be called a direct ripoff.

I agree. There are riffage similarities but Killing Joke are far far better for a start. Moving this to general.

Nirvana weren't even the first group to be called NIrvana...and so on...and so on...

I dunno if I agree with that statement. Killing Joke were certainly far more interesting but overall I think bland works like their debut dampen their overall effect. Night Time was great, yes, but as their best work it really isn't representative of everything else they did. I haven't heard anything after Pandemonium, tbh. It was just too generic to be intriguing.

Wait a second here. You're saying their first album was bland and Night Time was their best album?! :crazy:

Virtually every album throws up a different sound and I would say their influence has produced a wider array and generally better bands than Nirvana influenced. I'm not going to argue the merits of Killing Joke. I just find them infinitely more interesting and eclectic than Nirvana.

Yep. I got bored with the self-titled halfway through. There was nothing at the end to even keep me interested. At least Night Time had good songs which carried all the way through it.

Guess I'll try listening to their other works, see if my opinion changes. :)

with all of 5 major chord shapes on a guitar and a whopping 12 tones to an octave i really can't see how ANYONE might ever end up sounding like someone else.... i mean a pop star with chord based hooks for her chorus ends up with melodies that sounds like a band that based their entire existence on chord based hooks? unpossible....
I argue this a lot but the more music I listen to, and the more music technology improves, the more I realize what a hell of a lot of original ways there are to do the same thing.

I know I'll get a good pounding for this, but I actually consider Nirvana to be better than the majority of their influences, Killing Joke included.
