Really, metal's such a wide genre that you can never count it out completely. There's plenty of bands today imitating 70's/80's metal that you could probably stand to listen to.

Oh, and I haven't stated my opinion on Blink-182 yet, lol. I used to be obsessed with them, because they DO make really good pop-punk. I didn't like the direction they were taking before the break-up, but I might have just been naive. I'll give their last album another spin.

I'm talking the stuff the "scenesters" listen to. I have not listened to much cold play. I'm talking more...ugh, I don;t even know what they're called, but like Cobra Starship (Even though they're poppy, I kinda like them...)

MCR? ;)

BoopieJones 02-10-2009 09:01 PM

In my school MCR isnt as popular as they were two yearsago year when I actually started listening to them. Not so suprising though, the stuff I was referring to is the stuff they listen to.

As for me liking MCR - Iwill say I only listened to them because my only friends that liked music listened to them. I never had a lot of friends up until now. I know I just joined a bandwagon, but it was probably also because someone in the Sims 2 community made an absolutely AMAZING sim video of the song Heleana. Before that I never listened to MCR, started to because of that video/my "friends"

I did eventually stop liking them when I realized they were severely over-rated, but there are one or two songs I still like.

Ok, I can totally understand that. I mean I listen to a lot of music that I would say it ****ty music. Including Blink, 3OH!3, and plenty of other bands that I know its not great music but its catchy and I enjoy listening to it. And I had a friend telling me how amazing 3OH!3 was and I was just like *face palm* Its not good music, its just super catchy.

Also to the people who said that didnt care for the direction they went before the break up. I think that is the best release they had. Its so much more mature than the past albums and musically I think its a lot more intriguing.

BoopieJones 02-10-2009 09:03 PM

Every girl in my all girls school is suddenly a Blink-182 fan...

Every facebook status is OMG BLINKKKK

Every 2 minutes theres a myspace bulletin.. "BLINK IS BANK"

Its not fun to be immersed in this kinda pop culture. Is it a coincidence that I joined this forum when myspace/facebook were flooded with teenage girls who just wanted to rave about how "OMG AMAZING" blink is? I think not

I'm not sure how you can make such a statement. They are completely different. All i know is i'd rather listen to Enema of The State and Dude Ranch over bloody X&Y and Viva... any day

Im with you. Coldplay bores me. My friends are huge Coldplay fans and I hear about it all the time. And I would much rather listen to Blink than Coldplay.

Sneer 02-10-2009 09:24 PM

Well... their last two albums do nothing for me, listening to Blink's best work is a lot more fun. Coldplay's first two albums... now thats a different story.

The above is true everywhere.

I don't really understand why people hate blink-182 so much. This is the band that quotes George Carlin, runs around on stage naked and has lines like "It would be nice to have a blow from your mom." Sounds way more entertaining to me than Coldplay or anything Thom Yorke ever did.

Comus 02-10-2009 10:49 PM

It sounds like the stuff 13 year olds listen to when they're trying to be cool edgy and rebellious. It's a "no thanks" from me. I'll shut up about it though.

I like Coldplay, Thom Yorke, AND Blink 182. I like mixing it up :hphones:

I don't understand why people love Blink-182 so much. They sound like a half-assed version of NOFX and considering that NOFX themselves are pretty half-assed sounding, I guess that makes Blink-182 only about a quarter assed. Where's the fun in 1/4 of an ass?

_Spinning_ 02-11-2009 01:20 AM

I remember spamming the crap out of The Lounge with Anthem Pt. II with Ethan and Jibber.

<3 Memories.

good point

I don't love them that much, but I was exposed to their music when I haven't heard many other rock-in-general bands before. It's as easy as that, I listened to dance crap before and then you hear Blink, RHCP, Korn, the Offspring and Marilyn Manson on MTV/the radio, you start liking that kind of music and listen to all their records. I would have needed an older brother or friend to show me the "real" rock, punk, metal stuff.
Now, having listend to those bands several years in school and after, you can start to acknowledge that there is "better" music, broaden your horizon, diggin deep into music history. But it doesn't erase the period of hundrets of days listening to Blink. You still have your favorite songs.
So now I'm also excited about what they'll come up with. Though actually, I'm not even that excited. But as soon as the album is out I will get it.

And of course, it all started by watching MTV and those bands -as someone already argued- doing catchy music with sometimes even great riffs. Maybe not original or pure, but my rock-virgin-mind fell for it.
+ I like the contrast of the two different voices of Blink 182

Anthem pt 2 was always my favorite, and Adam's Song
Then Stockholm Syndrome

You could record repetitive flushing noises and the worst seventies punk song through a tin can while a baby wails and still come out with something more enjoyable than Fat Mike's singing.

Right. And Blink-182 sound half as good as that.

CanwllCorfe=one of the most incompetent posters=represents 79% of my school. I've gotten used to it.

Anyway. The new album comes out this summer, if it's like their first album or their last two it'll be great, but if they go back to that Enema of The State sh*t...

I felt like it was a little less then 80? I don't know. DON'T QUESTION ME!

dac 02-16-2009 11:55 AM

Blink 182 reuniting would be proof that God does not exist...

Arya Stark 02-16-2009 11:58 AM

Hahaha.

FaSho 02-16-2009 03:36 PM

My one fear is that they sound like f*cking AVA.

Yumdubaby 02-16-2009 03:39 PM

i hate when you talk about nick barker being the best drummer and people assume you meant travis and how it eventually ends up being "TRAVIS BARKER IS AMAZING"

blink182 = one hit wonder

They had more than one hit.

Musicgasm 02-16-2009 04:17 PM

one hit wonder is certainly not the term i would use to describe blink 182 lol

and I'm excited. even if their new stuff sucks i still will go see them perform because i wasn't much of a concert goer back when they were still around- so I'd like to go this time :)

Arya Stark 02-17-2009 03:25 PM

They will not sound like AVA.

And AVA wasn't bad, it just wasn't Blink 182.

FaSho 02-17-2009 03:26 PM

I honestly couldn't stand AVA, I couldn't stand +44 either though, I'll ad mit Blink's last album was pretty amazing, and I really hope it sounds like that.

Arya Stark 02-17-2009 03:29 PM

I think I'm still stuck in the fantasy that they're going to sound how I want them to.

I hope they don't change.

I highly doubt they'll sound like AVA, though.

FaSho 02-17-2009 03:30 PM

How do you want them to sound?
I'd love a combination os the serious stuff from their self-titled and the fun stuff from their earlier work.

Arya Stark 02-17-2009 03:32 PM

I miss their earlier work.

But I also want to hear some solid work.

iksosept 02-17-2009 03:40 PM

exactly like the last album would be just fine with me!

Anteater 02-17-2009 03:47 PM

Hopefully they'll go on tour with Forever the Sickest Kids and Fall Out Boy before jumping into the nearest active volcano.
