Made-Up Albums that Changed the World (lyrics, country, punk, vinyl)

Show off your creativity - let us know what your dream album is, whether you've fantasized about the return of a band you miss, or if you've fantasized about having created a band and released an album that has been either loved or hated by critics.

Choose your year, make up your own playlist, create its history. Essentially, make us all believe that the album really existed.

Here's my contribution:

THE VELVET UNDERGROUND & NICO AGAIN [Warner Bros; 1998]

SIDE ONE

4 - Thrills (7:48) Reed, Nico
5 - Lullaby/Menace (5:51) Reed

8 - Hot Lights (3:33) Nico
9 - NY City (8:14) Reed, Cale

In these [fake] times, Nico is still alive and the band members get all long - all is good. They still broke up after Loaded, but 30 years after their debut, which obviously inspires this "comeback" album, they resurface with new material. The Velvet Underground & Nico Again is undoubtedly a concept record in which Lou Reed, Nico and John Cale sing about the legacy they "apparently" left behind, citing the works of Bowie, Roxy Music, Sonic Youth, and various Punk efforts. In an ironic twist they arrange their songs in the style of these artists, borrowing lyrics and themes. In Hot Lights, Nico sings about fashion and celebrity culture and how it has changed her and the young women of recent history. This coincides with the band's overall effort to make another record about the society that inspires them. The record was recorded on tape and mixed in Mono to rekindle people's interest in vinyl LPs, a move that would forever change the industry's marketing strategies. Criticts thought that the record was a suitable comeback for the band, stating that they have once again changed the flow music culture. Fans of the iconic debut enjoyed their choice to record on tape and mix on Mono, but preferred the debut. The Velvet Underground & Nico Again would enjoy an extensive tour, after which the band certainly called it quits.

lol, what's the point of this? i want to be able to hear albums, not read reviews of albums that i can't hear because they don't even exist...

Tapeworm—Blank Tape (2001)
After a long wait, this collaboration between Trent Reznor, a couple NIN touring musicians and well known musicians such as Maynard James Keenan, Page Hamilton and Phil Anselmo is finally released. The final product, though described by some reviewers as "uneven", changes the the course of Trent Reznor's career. He puts an end to Nine Inch Nails and begins to branch out, collaborating with a wide variety of artists on a large number of different projects. Not all of these projects are successful, but most receive a degree of critical acclaim with reviewers pleased to see that Reznor is shaking off the stagnation that was starting to become apparent on his final Nine Inch Nails release, The Fragile.

Note: The album above is fictitious, but Tapeworm isn't. They apparently recorded an album's worth of material years ago, but unfortunately it has never been released.

This is a fun idea for a thread!

The Stone Roses: Second Coming (Mk 1)- 1991

After their debut album, the band made its peace with Silvertone, signed to Geffen, and released this album.

1. Breaking Into Heaven (6:32)
2. Where Angels Play (new version) (4:17)
3. Ten Storey Love Song (3:50)
4. Sermon On The Mount (5:44)
5. Your Star Will Shine (2:45)
6. Blackpool Express (5:21)
7. (untitled) (2:59)
8. Tears (6:55)
9. How Do You Sleep (4:30)
10. Love Spreads (4:12)

In this alternate history, Ian Brown has yet to develop a deblitating coke addiction and John Squire has yet to cheese up the songs with Led Zep-esque guitar riffs and sounds. Breaking Into Heaven and Ten Storey Love Song lack the extended intros that feature on the official album. Oh, and the songs actually have tunes at this stage.

It's still a slight letdown after the One Love/Something's Burning single, but most critics and fans agree that it's a worthy followup to the immaculate debut album. Thankfully, the Roses then break up before they have a chance to descend into self parody and self-indulgent ego trips.

In this alternate reality, Sufjan Stevens finishes all states in the United States and decides to record an album inspired by Ontario, Canada. However, the album itself is very brief, for Stevens has aged significantly.

Sufjan Stevens : ONTARIO The "Beautiful Water" Province and Closest Neighbor [Asthmatic Kitty; 2031]

1 - Through LAKE SUPERIOR; through Huron, Erie, Ontario, and the Saint Lawrence River.
2 - In a strange haze, an IROQUOI tells me to save Nunavut
3 - THE GREAT TRAGEDY. Convinced, I will laugh until all the tears dry from my cheeks and Uncle Buck comes to me in my dreams.
4 - HIGHWAY 401 and how it reminds me of everything I've ever loved and dreaded.
5 - After cottage country we'll meet our friends in the great northern city.
5 - TORONTO and its greater areas
6 - Loyal she began, loyal she remains
7 - Two hours later we're in PETERBOROUGH singing a song that reminds us of the Barenaked Ladies
8 - A song for the trillium
9 - The CN TOWER, heights from which I mock the world
10 - A brief interlude for the Natives of the assimilation
11 - Keep the organ player, he has the right idea
12 - The GREAT IMMIGRATION
13 - LONDON brings a tear to my eye, not for any particular reason, at least none that I can describe
14 - MUSKOKA and it's great, expansive territory
15 - The FINAL SONG, sung underneath the bridge of the hamlet, in Dorset
