I'm not normally that big a fan of Joe Satriani, but this particular track's bassline is gold.

While I probably couldn't stomach a whole Satriani album nowadays without the guitar workout vibe overpowering me, I think he's definitely one of the more restrained shredders who shows actual songwriting potential.

i could only get through a couple minutes of that...creepy, yes...but i got really bored.

but...for some reason it put me in the mood for some metal...anyone heard of chthonic? taiwanese black metal...some truly original stuff the erhu is blended in perfectly

Yes! I have heard of them. They're pretty awesome. Some of their stuff is a bit heavy on the keyboards but they're great indeed.
