The Week from Hell continues at work - and our CEO has recruited two 20-something girls to help out. Unfortunately, they blast YouTube videos from their cell phones at full volume, resulting in a day-long barrage of Puerto Rican pop/Reggaeton music.

I was able to escape into my Sennheisers for some of the day, playing Emilíana Torrini Davíðsdóttir's Fisherman's Woman and Harold Budd's The Lovely Thunder on repeat.

Have you ever tried to meditate while the bass drops from an iPhone?

It's been a few years since I heard Femme Fatale, and it's rather off putting to hear so much dubstep. Like, why the **** is the beat dropping in a Britney Spears song? But it goes so hard so who gives a ****?

Sounds like an improvement from last time, no?

I used to have to work one with these ladies. (The second is her sister.) My former associate is profoundly insipid and is preoccupied almost exclusively with getting people in prison to sleep with her. Her intellect is rivaled only by farm equipment. She spends every lunch break watching Spanish soap operas... voluntarily.

Hearing that ear sodomy bleeding from the piezo transducer they call a "speaker" in her iPhone cranked up to eleven is the bane of my existence.

Like, as in she has boyfriends who keep getting arrested, or she sends letters to convicts?

She has a desk job working for the police. She receives police reports and keys them into a database. She's explained that the actual work takes up about 15-20 minutes of her 8-hour shift, so she plays on her phone and watches soaps the rest of her work day. (No one cares - it's a government job.) The upshot of this glorious position is that, as she describes, she gets to see a lot of the prisoners as they're being brought in, and according to her they flirt with her incessantly.

I find this dubious, as she's frightfully revolting, but perhaps junkies and prisoners have lower expectations.

Sidenote - these are not murders and serial killers... she went on at length today about how a lot of the people they bring in are idiots filing phony police reports to get themselves arrested because they're bored and can't think of anything better to do.

...damn, I live in an abysmal city.
