OMG not gonna cry. But this song is so tragically beautiful that it's a losing battle.

Quote:
The old hometown looks the same as I step down from the train
And there to meet me is my mama and papa
Down the lane I look and there runs Mary hair of gold and lips like cherries
It's good to touch the green, green grass of home.

The old house is still standing though the paint is cracked and dry
There's the old oak tree that I used to play on
Down the lane I walk with my sweet Mary hair of gold and lips like cherries
It's so good to touch the green, green grass of home.

Yes they'll all come to meet me arms a reached smiling sweetly
It's so good to touch the green, green grass of home.

Then I awake and look around me at the four grey walls that surround me
And I realized that I was only dreaming
For there's a guard and there's that sad old padre
Arm in arm we'll walk at daybreak
And again I'll touch the green, green grass of home.

Yes, they'll all come to see me in the shade of that old oak tree
As they lay me neath the green, green grass of home...

#1 hit for Tom Jones that many had to put up with in the mid-'60's.
As time has passed, it's easier to swallow these days.
The Porter Wagoner version was popular too.

Just listened to the Tom Jones song. Yeah, not gonna pretend like I hate it, cause it just doesn't leave enough of an impression to feel strongly about, but it's so divorced from the emotion of the song that I just want to run screaming back to Merle.

Of course a country song that gets me choked up makes me want to throw this on repeat again. Still destroys me. Gets hard to breathe after a while.

Jones has had to do that song so many times for so many years,
but this was the ever-present version:

I hope she pulls thru...

Oh ****, Loretta Lynn had a stroke? I ain't even mad though, cause she had to cancel her tour dates which means she's still touring at 85. Can't keep that bitch down apparently.
