Sixy- you’re like digging deep into the stuff I grooved on in the late 80’s

So like why aren’t you transitioning more into jazz as well?

MicShazam 10-25-2018 04:37 AM

Because he's not 70 years old yet?

Bobby Hutcherson & Cedar Walton - Little B's Poem with David Williams and Eddie Marshall.

David's the only one alive these days. My first introduction to Little B's Poem was thru Doug & Jean Carn from the
Infant Eyes album I played incessantly beginning in '71. The song was written by Hutcherson for his son, Barry, in '65.

Still kinda beyond me atm. I'm more interested than anything so far. In the right mood I can dig on Brotzman or Clotrane in much the same way I can dig on harsh noise or industrial. The details go over my head but the whole can be fascinating. Oddly enough I haven't gotten much into more normal jazz but Machine Gun and Ascension are noice.

I think for a while industrial has been the next big genre that's gonna hit me over the head hard though. I've been diving into it here and there for the longest but I think it's becoming the soundtrack to my current alienation.

Regular industrial or industrial metal? I got some recommendations for both.

Either way here's Slab!, tons more people should know them. They were Godflesh before Godflesh:

The Batlord 10-25-2018 03:56 PM

Industrial.

rostasi 10-25-2018 04:06 PM

Industrial lube.

Frownland 10-25-2018 04:08 PM

Red Mecca objectively slays.

23 Skidoo is sick too but they don't have that crazy Voltatmosphere.

I could see Batman loving Ramleh, (Kevin Martin's) God, and maybe Coil and Nurse With Wound.

I know I've heard Ramleh and God but don't remember what they sound like or what I thought of them. Coil is ****ing sweet, and one of my first industrial albums was Nurse with Wound's Thunder Perfect Mind as a bob. rec. Still one of the sickest things I've heard. Remember liking earlier albums as well.

Unitron 10-25-2018 04:22 PM

Well most of these bands are ones who would later go on to do metal stuff, and are on the more dance-able side of industrial, but here they are anyway. Thinking about it, you probably already know most of these:

early Front Line Assembly:

Laibach:

early KMFDM:

and more Slab! because they're so good:

if any album will destroy you it's Ramleh - Hole in the Heart

I'm honestly not that interested in industrial metal as a gateway to real industrial. There are good bands here and there but metal bands being legit experimental have a tendency to be like stoners trying to decipher the great truths of the universe after a joint.

Yeah, I can't really help on the experimental industrial end. Most of my industrial knowledge is either metal or dance-oriented stuff.

Though did you listen to Slab? That sh** slays.

The Batlord 10-25-2018 05:07 PM

Not yet. Giving Ramleh is listen.

Oh yeah but check this **** out. It's probably the catalyst for my entire interest in industrial and only early Suicide can compete for sick live **** of any genre.

And also check this cause it's literally the best thing ever as in actually literally.

Mondo Bungle 10-25-2018 05:12 PM

the first track is more atmospheric and shimmery but that album soon increases its gravity immensely so you can hardly exist within its atmosphere without powdering your bones

Unitron 10-25-2018 05:12 PM

I'll just link the whole damn album for your listening pleasure when you get to it:

The Batlord 10-25-2018 05:21 PM

Hey, Frown, where's that "Discipline" video with the song before it? I had it in a tab but accidentally closed it. And do you know where that comes from? The quality is good enough that I could believe it's from an entire official concert video or high res bootleg that I would love to watch fully.

Frownland 10-25-2018 05:45 PM

Damn you're right and I never checked.

And uh, maybe check out the new Noosefiller for dope industrial experimentation in metal.

The Batlord 10-25-2018 05:45 PM

Seriously though, what pop (popular) music could ever be relevant after this? Isn't anything that comes after this taking an evolutionary step back and at best saying, "Yeah this amazing but we still like actual songs and just want to take influences from this and other things in this ballpark to make far less transgressive pop music but that's still cool? Or you know we want to **** with your head but who the **** can follow this so here's some stuff that's also cool."

I think that ship has sailed. Plus why recommend the new one for industrial purposes when the second exists? That's literally retarded.

And that clip was filmed by Target Video in San Francisco. I used to be friends with Joe Rees's (Target Video founder) sons

Nah I'll listen to it eventually I've just been lazy. I mean I dug the split enough to buy it even if I had to be blasted out of my mind.

Mondo Bungle 10-25-2018 05:54 PM

well if you wanna hear "dope industrial experimentation in metal" then the second album would be the only option. I dunno wtf frownland's talking about. Relatively speaking.

Mondo Bungle 10-25-2018 05:56 PM

the new one is just a guitar clinic like a black metal version of Gorguts that happens to have a few electronic samples that in no way drive the sound of the entire product while the second is literally 100% industrial metal with no breaks anywhere in the electronics.

Frownland 10-25-2018 06:07 PM

I find the drums pretty industrial still but more in timbre than in style. Also I think it's better.

Unitron 10-25-2018 06:11 PM

Best industrial metal:

I find the drums on the second to be actual electro drums instead of live samples

I'm about halfway through this and I'm conflicted but I understand why I'm conflicted. In concert I imagine that those synths and sound ****ery whatnots must have been loud as **** as live **** is, and so the contrast between deafening anti-music and Orridge's monotone ramblings must have been ****ed up, but after a half hour the effect isn't what I feel it should be. I love the approach, I love the lack of attempt to entertain, I love that guy next to Orridge who just seems to be doing what the **** ever and I can't even tell if what he's doing sounds like anything (though that mouth thing he has at 6 mins clearly is doing something cool), but I know that I'm missing something with the lack of deafening sound. I just wish I could be there probably unable to hear my own thoughts as Orridge just kind of chants.
