Who tf played Pacman. How old are you?

MicShazam 10-30-2018 03:17 AM

Daft Punk are probably ok, but I'm not sure I'll go higher than that.
I don't mind their music but I wouldn't actively choose to listen to it.

Maylee Todd. Acts of Love. The whole album. > Daft Punk's entire career

Sure thing. Live 2002 by Mika Vainio, Alva Noto, and Ryoki Ikeda.

Daft Punk aren't my favorite electronic artists out there, but Discovery is masterclass when it comes to house music and Homework and HAA, while flawed, have their moments as well. Alive 2007 is their best album imo because they take songs from those three albums and they combine them into these super bombastic and flashy mashups that sound great in their own right. It's a really unique and creative performance and they deserve kudos for it, no matter how ****ty you think they are.

Listening now. Is this going to be 45 mins of minimalist glitch? If so I might have to dip early in.

Ja, microsound. Pretty hypnotic imo.

Do you like Actress?

That's just one out of thousands too. Electronic music is in an incredibly exciting place right now and while Daft Punk does have a notable influence, we've gotten so far past them and are into much more interesting territories.

Sure. Like I said, I don't think Daft Punk are the greatest. I like a ton of electronic artists more than them but they deserve appreciation for making good music when they make good music. If we're talking electronic duos I'd take Xploding Plastix over them any day.

Never heard of him. I have to get through this live album you gave me first and the album Batlord gave me. I love love love electronic music though so keep the recs coming.

That I agree with. Whether or not that applies to Daft Punk is another story though.

Definitely check out all of OPN and Actress's stuff. I have a huge boner for Arca and weird IDM **** like Autechre and Pan Sonic (plus anything that's connected to those two--that Live 2002 album is an example).

windsock 10-30-2018 11:36 AM

tbh I'd be down for a thread where I can just get recommended electronic music. It'd be nice to widen my horizon.

If anyone wants some really good, creative IDM with a lot of hooks, I recommend checking out Xploding Plastix' 2008 album. It sounds nothing like their nu-jazz debut but it really does rock.

That video for the Herndon song looks awesome, that album has some really nice tracks.

MicShazam 10-30-2018 02:10 PM

I think it's pretty interesting to look at. Some very well done visuals that strike some uncanny balance between real and unreal. One of my favourite music videos tbh

debaserr 10-30-2018 04:55 PM

Just because electronic music has progressed / evolved since Daft Punks' time does not make it necessarily better.

Daft Punk is good pop / dance music. The recommendations you have given are solid, but really don't do what Daft Punk did BETTER.

I still listen to them on occasion, and I doubt that will ever change to be honest.

Just as I will continue to listen to Yes and Aphex Twin and Pinback and ...

Frownland 10-30-2018 04:58 PM

I'll cop to Daft Punk having to walk so that modern artists can run, but musically I've never thought of them as anything more than mediocre while all of the artists I've listed blow me away. Is there anything by them that might change my mind?

windsock 10-30-2018 06:25 PM

I will listen to all of those recommendations, I promise. Windsock will listen to anything. Wink wink.
