I'd be up for this next week though I don't think I know enough music that others haven't already heard to participate. Plus, I'm not sure if I qualify as active enough to participate. If so, then put me down for next week.

edit: I'm contemplating what to send you...

it says the only band we have in common is sufjan stevens and Minus the bear (1 official listen so far)

so i'll just send you an Alternative Folk album... (sounds nothing like sufjan stevens though.)

Good decision. I doubt it's good to try and force it though, I'm sure when your ready you'll like it! As long as you don't toss it then you'll most likely come back around. Glad to hear about the five listens though, keep at it! =D

Hymie's Basement - Hymie's Basement

This is a very different album if you're not acustomed to lo-fi music, which I am not. So this album was a little hard to access for me. But after a few listens, and some different listening techniques, the album has found a place in my collection. While not becoming a favorite over night, Hymie's Basement has just enough stand-out moments to grab you and keep you interested if you listen for them. The closing track 'You Die' is by far my favorite on the album, the group covers more ground on this one song than they did the entire first portion of the album. Overall, this album is mood-cast, and can only be listened to when called upon.

6.5/10

Hymies Basement are definitely one of those albums you have to acclimate to, and I'll admit on first listen I wasn't the biggest fan either. What I like most about this album is it sounds like a perpetual jam session/inside joke between Yoni and Fog. 21st Century Pop Song is probably my favorite, although Ben and Joey, America Won, I Am A Sewer At Heart, and even Pretty Colors, are all great tracks. It’s quite a stunning album once you get past how unconventional the music is.

So, congratulations, if you could take Hymies Basement then you could probably enjoy anything from the anticon crew.

I'll have a review up for that Paulson album sometime tomorrow.
