From Trace87...

Deerhunter - Microcastle

Shoegaze isn't exactly something I listen to a lot of/have a lot of patience for, so of the albums I was offered I asked for Microcastle here, just because I've seen a fairly active thread about it in the New Releases forum and raved elsewhere as well, so I thought I'd give it a go. Not bad at all, and certainly something I can see myself getting back to. On the livelier tracks like Nothing Ever Happened there are some interesting juxtapositions between catatonic kinds of rhythms and the heavy distortions and feedback on the guitars that dominate the longer instrumental passages, making for some good results to say the least. The album shined best for me with the slower, quieter trio at the centre of the tracklisting - the title track, Calvary Scars and Green Jacket. Overall though it's a solid unit of work.

So, yeah, thanks Trace.

anyways trace87 made the mistake of sending me my least favourite punk band next to The Exploited, The Adolescents. Now I can't blame him for this mistake, I hardly ever talk about my punk bands (partly because I have great disdain for the genre) but also The Adolescents are one of those greatly respected artists from most fans of the genre. The album he sent me was their self-titled album, which I'll admit is better than the rest of their discography (especially Balboa Fun Zone). I think my irrational hatred of most punk is mostly due to the fact that even they wouldn't accept me as a teenager because I wouldn't dress or act like them. I clung to my geeky roots of reading Tolkein and Pratchett as well as playing Dungeons & Dragons. This rejection by a group of self appointed rejects really made me dislike the punk genre and most things associated with it. I know this sounds petty, but I can be a very petty person at times. Sorry man, I hope you liked The Standard more than I liked The Adolescents.
yes that sounds very immature but o well.

You sent me

The Standard - Swimmer

You prefaced the album saying that you didnt really like most "indie" music. I can see why. I really couldn't find one redeeming quality about this album. Stereotypical "indie", with the added bonus of drowsiness! The vocalist drives me crazy too. Maybe recommend stuff from genres you are familiar with in the future. Im sorry but this must be done.

0/10
