Only if they are used too often!!!

disco is too commercial...a waste of time in my opinion, however you can't judge one by his/her tastes in music.

But you sure can judge a douche bag by his/her opinion of music being based on popularity...

i don't see how the opinion on music has anything to do with what is really inside. i have a friend of mine who is a very good person and she likes disco, dance and all those sh**ty monotonous disco songs (if they can be called songs)...but now that i think of it, she ain't that bright >.>

The type of music you listen to has litle to no direct impact on a persons intelligence. I believe we came to this conclusion in anouther thread a while back, where in a chart was posted showing peoples average test scores and the type of music they listen to. The relvance just isn't there.

As far as disco goes, I like it, some of it. But I am a bassist, so I may be biased.

yes you are a terrible person.

haha...you got a point there. but from people around me i see that those who have shallow minds (i'm not talking about intelligence in test scores) incline to more commercial stuff. anyways this applies to few and not all.

Intelligent noob alert!

Dona 04-30-2009 02:22 PM

and what do you mean by that i wonder

SATCHMO 04-30-2009 02:27 PM

It's a compliment. It means we have a new member of our forum who expresses themself intelligently and thoughtfully. A rarity among "noobs" (new people) on this forum.

Dona 04-30-2009 02:34 PM

Ah, thank you then. I know what a noob is, but i thought i felt some sarcasm (seems i was wrong).^^
Anyways sorry for going off-topic...

I think I just went through this thread without seeing Donna Summer's Bad Girls being mentioned- very much recommended for anyone who has yet to 'get' disco. I also wonder whether "Our Love" has been mixed with New Order's "Blue Monday"...

You missed my point.

Judging music based on its popularity level, regardless of what it actually sounds like, is ignorant.
If we only steered toward what's either unpopular, or popular, without taking the actual music itself into account, then we're being led by an expectation; not a genuine interest.
I understand the need to generalize to some degree, but if we limit ourselves too much (and I'm not just talking about disco here) then we miss out on opportunities to develop our own appreciation of what's out there.

That's what I was trying to say.

Dona 05-01-2009 03:11 AM

Ah, then sorry! Now i got what you mean. I fully agree to not prejudice music just based on popularity.
Just to be clear on this one, i wasn't bashing disco because it's popular but because from all the stuff i have personally heard, i didn't like any.
