Ladies and Gentlemen, a Question:

I like Disco. Am I a bad person?

crash_override 04-13-2009 10:40 PM

Hell no. I love disco, some of my favorite bass line to jam on.

Surell 04-13-2009 10:41 PM

Maybe I should've posted this on the Punk forum in 1976...

PLUS I thought I was in the General Music forum, this doesn't go here!

crash_override 04-13-2009 10:43 PM

yes you are correct.

Antonio 04-13-2009 11:01 PM

Disco is the SH*T

SATCHMO 04-14-2009 12:28 AM

yes.

funk is where it's at. disco is not. disco is the epitome of a sold out style. with the way people crap on the mainstream artists on these boards for being soulless corporate shills the fact that disco can even be mentioned in anything besides a negative light boggles the mind. the absolute everything of disco was dollars and blow. it was never about the music, it was always about the image.

i'll be the first to acknowledge that people have the right to suck, if you want to like disco, well, that's your choice. personally i think there's more depth to the last miley cyrus / hanna montana disc than the entirety of the disco genre.

SATCHMO 04-14-2009 02:24 AM

Don't listen to him. Stay gold Pony Boy.

mr dave 04-14-2009 02:46 AM

why the hell would anyone listen to saturday night fever when they could be listening to dr. funkenstein? huh? answer me that.... :p:

The BeeGees? Blech! I'm with you there, but disco is just fun, and while I certainly LOVE funk, It's not really an apt substitute. I think Disco gets bad rap there was a lot of innovative music being produced as the backdrop to the whole pop culture craze that was playing out.

Molecules 04-14-2009 03:24 AM

the way i see it, it was carrying the torch for northern soul, fusing it with funk and preparing the world for house, or whatever. I also think it got better as it took on synth-pop AND I know you are a hip-hop head Surell so you should check out new jack swing. That's the shit

although i'm sure at the height of it's popularity disco's monotonous groove would have eventually induced a gag reflex, much like popular indie rock today

jackhammer 04-14-2009 09:56 AM

If you don't like the odd disco song to shake your booty at then you are taking your listening habits far too seriously. I have a soft spot for funk edged disco and what came after with deep and chill house. I have quite a few house mixes and wouldn't mind some more if anybody has any? Bass in music especially dance music gets me pumping.

I do like me some Hip Hops and Souls and Discos, so cool.

And I'm glad I'm not completely hated.

There's some pretty good disco/funk house out there. As far as actual disco in the 70's sense, I personally don't take much of a liking to it.

But for your original question:
No. But listening to Vanilla Ice does make you a bad person however. So just don't get too close to that cliff. :D

Surell 04-18-2009 08:32 PM

Is MC Hammer Ok?

What's disco? I can't think of one band that's called disco that I couldn't place in another genre.

Surell 04-18-2009 08:39 PM

Disco is that song Disco Duck.

Traveling Bandsman 04-18-2009 09:24 PM

I like disco, at least some of it. There's a lot of rock music coming out nowadays that has a lot of disco/funk themes in it.

No, you like what you like.

I personally despise disco, but who the hell cares?

Adonai 04-20-2009 06:28 AM

No idea. Disco is awful, but that's your choice. Better switch to funk or deathcore :P

Surell 04-20-2009 06:02 PM

Deathcore? No thankz.

I like Bee Gees too. How they keep their voices intact for a full album like that is a damned mystery.

Flower Child 04-21-2009 09:23 AM

Disco puts me in the best of moods. You can not listen to September - Earth Wind & Fire and still be in a grumpy mood. I'm listening to this right now. ahhhhhhhhhh. hoooo hoooo dancing in september hooo never was a cloudy dayyyyyyyy. YES!

Yay! They make me feel good inside. It reminds me of when I used to live at home and my parents would be playing it while we had the fire going while reading.

 Does That Make Me Incredibly Wicked Then!? ;)

IWP 04-22-2009 10:54 AM

Certainly not, at least you don't listen to rap.

Besides, I have a soft spot for the Bee Gees and KC & the Sunshine Band. Both are cheesy as ****, but are fun to listen to every now and then. I also happen to be a growing house fan which is basically modernized disco for the most part.

Fire, Bee Gees, and reading? Sounds like quite the evening!

Yeah...hanging out with parents is always very entertaining!

mr. goth glam 04-24-2009 06:14 AM

See...that's why I like drinking alone...the booze is cheaper, and I can pick whatever damn songs I want.

Freebase Dali 04-24-2009 02:40 PM

LOL @ irony.

anticipation 04-24-2009 02:51 PM

no, sometimes disco is sick.
