The Johnny Cash version of Hurt always seems to bring me down.

I always thought that "Waiting Around To Die" by Townes Van Zandt was the most depressing song I have ever heard.

A depressing song I can think of right now is Creep By Radiohead.

You seen the homeless man/tramp/hobo do a cover of it on Youtube?

The fact that DCFC have 11 votes is... Rather depressing, isn't it? They sort of pride themselves on tugging on your emotions with limited accuracy...

If any Radiohead song qualified for depressing, I'd say "Kid A" works best. Seems very claustrophobic and trapped in a pretty desperate manner.

Lately, "Katy Song" by Red House Painters works wonders. Some of its lyrics seems pretty boiler-plate out of context ("Without you, what does my life amount to?") but it's genuinely sad, which I like.

I really don't get the idea that music is depressing - melody is always uplifting for me, however plaintive the words.

Coldplay, Radiohead, Damien Rice - all get accused of being maudlin, but I love 'em all...

I've always thought Gilbert O'Sullivan's 'Alone Again (naturally)' was really depressing. I think it's because of the contrast of the happy tune and the lyrics that just make it so sad...

That's my favourite RHP song, truly brilliant.

I've never quite got the fact that some people think SP is depressing. I mean, sure they have some sad songs(Mayo, Shame, To Forgive, For Martha etc.) but I've never ever thought they were depressing. I've always found Mayo. to be one of those cheer up songs. I guess different music does different things for different people.

I don't know if I could call Radiohead depressing, considering I've only heard OK Computer. That was depressing though. Alot of AIC and Nirvana are depressing too.

This song has always sounded depressing.

And so has this one.
