Festivals?

Lollapalooza in like 2 and a half weeks! I can't wait I've actually never really been to a music festival before (I'm only 19 and never had the money to go to any before). I've also never been to Chicago, and as a lover of cities I'm really excited to be there too; I'm getting there Friday morning but staying all day Monday so I can see the city. And hit up some record stores

I went to Warped Tour when I was a dumbass 8th and 9th grader but that really wasn't so good... I guess I actually liked some of the bands back then. But some bands I'm really looking forward to:
Depeche Mode, Jane's Addiction, Lou Reed, Thievery Corporation, Snoop Dogg, The Decemberists, Animal Collective, Of Montreal, Arctic Monkeys, Atmosphere, Deerhunter, The Gaslight Anthem, Los Campesinos!, Portugal. The Man, Hockey, Chairlift, Gomez, Band of Horses, Tool, and some other ones.

glastonbury is the only festival for me, i have not missed it since 1999

i found a 4 leaved clover infront of the pyramid stage in 1999 and its been my lucky charm ever since

did you know the pyramid stage sits on the st michael's ley line, which also connects stone henge anf hope Bagot (site of the oldest tree in europe) which happens to be the most incredible yew tree ever, its got real history

I registered for next year's edition. It's high on my list of festivals I want to go to in other countries. Next year's 40th edition should be the right moment.

Wrote a review about the Werchter festival in the review thread. Hope to have one ready for the North Sea Jazz festival in a few days.

michael eavis has been quoted saying he does not think that 2010 will be as good as 2009

my opinion on 2009 was: the line-up was good, a little middle aged for me. it was interesting to see acts like nerd and dizzie rascal there, but in my opinion they have no place at glastonbury. although glastonbury has always been a festival for all tastes, it has only recently introduced RnB and hip hop acts to the main stage and because of this it is bringing in a different audience.

i have been going every year for 10 years and the last 3 years the music has been ok, but the crowd has all been stuck up middle class posh kids who are there jst to say they have been there.

gone are the days of naked hippies, mud wrestling and all the other crazy **** that comes with the working class heros and travellers

Hard rock calling was amazing last year! Line up this year was iffy but for last year i give it 10/10 - great atmosphere

Ah right. I thought they had a pretty good line-up this year and was hoping for something special for the next edition. Ah well, just wait and see I guess.
I know what you're saying about the RnB/Hip hop acts. Not my cup of tea and it does feel kind of out of place. But that's probably the idea since otherwise it will be a festival for middle aged (I'm 37 myself so I guess I fit in) visititors. And with these prices nowadays this does attract a certain kind of audience. Fortunately there's still a large part of the people who think that festivals only attract unshowered naked and mud wrestling weird alternative hippies so there's still some natural selection. But you're right things are changing.

It's the same over here with the Lowlands festival (which copied their format from Glastonbury by the way). It already attracts quite a lot of posh hipsters who are sipping coctails all day and have no clue what band is playing. Don't even get me started on the North Sea Jazz festival over here.

Sounds great! I would love to see Tool again! I read they really rocked at the Mile High festival.

That lineup's awesome! Animal Collection, Of Montreal, Deerhunter AND Los Campesinos!I'm going to Leeds... would've prefered to go to Glasto/Latitude/Pretty Much Anything Else but can't get the time off. I only really want to see The Bronx, MSTRKRFT, Crystal Castles, The Horrors, Dananananaykroyd, Gaslight Anthem, Brand New, Rival Schools. Might try and catch Radiohead and Arctic Monkeys too. Anyone else heading to Leeds this year?
