But can you really beat the sweet poppy sounds of Belle & Sebastian? It was a close call... Primal Scream, J&MC, and Boards of Canada are all right up there. Cocteau Twins too, probably should have been included. I nearly voted for them as a write in candidate. I love dream pop and they pretty much created the sound.

Nine Black Poppies 04-01-2010 06:37 PM

On that list.... tch.

I voted for Primal Scream.
It was between them, JAMC, B&S, Boards of Canada and the Fannies.

I genereally prefer Belle and Sebastian as a band but I went for Primal scream 'cause I've never got bored of Screamadelica and it is in fact, the album i've bought the most times. twice on vinyl and three times on c.d plus the title track, sort of, on the Dixie-narco e.p is brilliant and now i've got an ipod i can put it on the album in place of Come toghether which is a bit boring.

franz ferdinand and the proclaimers come a close second because they are champs.

Charlemagne 04-01-2010 09:02 PM

I voted for Belle and Sebastian, but I love the Twilight Sad as well, but they are not on the list.

Stone Birds 04-01-2010 09:04 PM

Go belle & sebastien!!!

This band solely for their connection with David Brent.

Seriously Franz Ferdinand, Proclaimers, and Primal Scream are awesome.

80sfan 04-07-2010 08:41 PM

I have to go with Big Country. I loved what they did with the guitars. But Jesus and Mary Chain is a close second for me.

loveissucide 04-07-2010 08:43 PM

No Cocteau Twins,Josef K,Aztec Camera, and The Beta Band leave me questioning this list.

CaptainAwesome 06-16-2010 12:18 PM

Definately John Martyn. Although, if Alestorm had been included i might have been in a bit of a Dilemma.

James 06-16-2010 12:18 PM

How about I do a new one.
Is it possible for me to create a new one but merge the two threads keeping my version of the poll?

Johnny Sunshine 06-17-2010 01:25 AM

It seems like The Vaselines should get a mention in dis thread.

TheFolkslave 06-17-2010 03:59 AM

Mogwai all the way. Everything else is ****e

Rhovanion 06-17-2010 08:11 AM

Alestorm. Not on the list.

Just out of curiosity have you listened to any of the other bands?

I voted for J&MC a while back but if i was to vote now i'd vote for Belle and Sebastian, i just love them that bit more now.

GravitySlips 06-17-2010 05:06 PM

I don't really have an out-and-out favourite these days. There's no band I necessarily feel are better than all the others. Teenage Fanclub at their best are maybe my favourite, same applies for Belle & Sebastian, the Cocteau Twins, the Vaselines, Orange Juice and Mogwai.

There's a wonderful indie rock band from Glasgow, active through the 90s, called Urusei Yatsura - sound kinda like early Pavement/Sonic Youth, and they have some totally amazin' songs. They're one of the best recent discoveries

I voted Boards of Canada, but yeah, I'll echo the Frightened Rabbit love. They released an all-time great breakup album right when I was going through my own first big breakup, so they'll always have a special place in the ****les of my heart. Wasn't crazy about their last record, tho

It was a joke and a reference to Mogwais "Blur is ****e" stuff but clearly you didn't get it.
But still it's Mogwai for me.

I know it won't be popular, but I've gone for Travis - saw them at Glastonbury in 2000 with very low expectations, and was really impressed.

Far better live than you'd ever expect.

Puts them just above Belle and Sebastian and Primal Scream, for me.
