recording noob

Hello everyone, im trying to record a rap to a track my buddy made for his sisters birthday. . I have a audio technica 4040mic, m audio "pre amp" (I think its called) and mac computer logic express 7 using mic with xlr connection to ch. 1 on m-box, i clicked the logic program open and dont have a clue how to record, i figured garageband out on my own but need help with this one, whats next? please help.

Doesn't mac have garageband already on it?

thanks, i kind of figured it out but the quality sounds like s**t any specific settings i should check?

No idea I've never used it. Just play around with it for awhile and maybe do some searching about it. It could be your microphone.
