Any fans of unsigned music here?
It's nice to take a break from the radio for a little bit and explore the music outside the box!
|
Nope, it has to be signed or I won't even give it the time of day.
|
^ Haha...
But yea, Strumstar... a vast majority of MB's population aren't listening exclusively to the radio, if at all. I've learned more about obscure bands from this website than any other place, due to the knowledge of the members here. |
actually many of us listen only to "Radio" that's streamed through the internet (if we listen to it at all).

But at least you can get good internet radio stations that play good music. I think the OP was talking about actual radio or whatever. |
I'm more a fan of unwritten music.

I wear clothes that don't exist yet.
I've been arrested for it several times. The government obviously wants to silence my fashion sensibilities. Proof of 2012. |

i see unsigned and signed as one and the same. usually trhe only difference would be the quality of equipment for playing and recording as well as one band being lucky enough to get noticed by a company and one not having the oppurtunity yet.

With the technology available it pretty easy to create and produce your own music as long as you have a computer powerful enough to run the software and the patience to learn it. Give it time, as interfaces become more user friendly and the instrument to computer ports become cheaper I think you'll see a rise in unsigned acts because well... they don't need to be signed. Take my friend Kirk Witt for example, dude does everything himself (he does feature guest musicians on his tracks) but for the most part he writes, records, and produces all his own stuff. From there he does offer some CD's, but for the most part it's for download. He doesn't tour or do live shows, and yet he can create a CD. He's just one example of some of the newer trends in the music industry. He doesn't need to go out and promote himself because he's got fans like me to do it for him.

and there's me, who made my own album! :-D
even if the quality sucks :o: |

I haven't listened to traditional radio in ages. It just all begins to mesh together and sound the same. It's a shame some great, unheard of bands can't get radio play because of promotion or production quality.
Internet radio is pretty cool though. Last.fm is great and Pandora is pretty decent (except I get a lot of the same stuff being played over and over for some reason). There's also Grooveshark, but I haven't had a chance to check it out. |

I love listening to unsigned bands.
I love going to see them live, because the gigs are a lot more intimate, and they havent got any fame to their heads yet, so they talk to you like one and the same. Some of my favourite bands are actually still unsigned. And people who say would never listen to unsigned bands, thats just stupid. Some of your favourite bands would have been unsigned at some point, so if they came out now you wouldnt listen to them, just because they werent' signed? But yeah ... my point ... i like unsigned bands (: |

I prefer to listen unsigned and new music why would i waste my time listening to top 40's music cause I'm not a robot..
|
I don't care if it's signed or not if it's "good" ... "good" being an entirely subjective qualifier based on my mood, environment, and prior experience.
If a band is "signed" or at least making plenty of cash, I feel better about copying their CD or downloading their album. If a band is still working hard to scrape by, I tend to buy the album (on a record if at all possible). But there's a good amount of garbage in both the "signed" and "unsigned" sets. I listen to music that is "tuned in". |

|
Blogs dedicated to music are a great way to find unsigned bands, but even browsing Myspace will probably turn up results.
