Yeah, I might be way off here, but it seems to me that if people don't bother actually checking out the stuff they don't know, it is essentially more of a "What are you listening to right now" type of thread.

I mean it seems that most are just in a big hurry to post another ten of THEIR songs.

Kind of a "Look at Me" thread, instead of the learning and eye-opening experience it COULD be.

No, I don't see it that way at all. I don't go checking out every/anything in people's lists for various reasons, one being that I have about 200 gig of music to listen to and of that I only know about thirty percent, so I have plenty to get through. Secondly, it's not like people are providing links, so you have to go looking for each track, and third, I either know nothing about most of the artistes, or know enough to know that I probably wouldn't be into their music.

I see it more as a "guilty secret" or variety thing: what embarrassing tracks have you got on your ipod? Or maybe a way of seeing the sort of music people are into. I definitely don't even think of checking any of this music out, but if I know a band/song/artiste I will mention it.
