sidewinder 08-05-2009 10:20 PM

Alright who submitted the .m4a? Naughty naughty. :nono:

Stone Birds 08-05-2009 11:18 PM

which song was an m4a?

jackhammer 08-06-2009 07:05 AM

Make a change for me to guess who submitted what. Listening now.

Stone Birds 08-06-2009 10:52 AM

PMO are we having a themed comp cause i think we may have time this month, (they'd be due th 15th or whatever day you choose)
i think songs that are named after woman should be the theme (because it's a cliche)

also i'm still downloading the comp

Edit:
i'm getting too much MB comp crap on my itunes so i deleted all of it from my itunes except the songs i found as good
Here's my list of what i kept (not in any specific order):
Klaxons
NO COMPLY
Elvis Costello & Allen Toussaint
Violens
Superchunk

Schizotypic 08-06-2009 06:02 PM

I doubt it actually was, but just because it would be hilarious...
Is number four submitted by Bulldog? I know he's into Costello

Caught like a rat in a trap :D

Dee-elling the comp now. Quite a few names I already know on this edition, which makes for a change.

Akira 08-09-2009 01:10 PM

Could the next one have it's volume leveled please? (something I forgot to do on my recent comp.)

Rickenbacker 08-12-2009 08:28 AM

I REALLY dug that Six Fingered Man track when I heard the River in Reverse for the first time. Not a huge fan of the rest of the album unfortunately, but that track is tops.

Zarko 08-12-2009 08:29 AM

Well this ones been a bit slow off the ground...

Stone Birds 08-12-2009 08:52 AM

wow, no one's even guessed at all, PMO you should put up the contributor's list.

You might have to tell me how!

Zarko 08-12-2009 10:28 AM

Bullie - Costello
Ant - Beardfish

Piss Me Off 08-12-2009 10:30 AM

Correctamundo!

Stone Birds 08-12-2009 10:31 AM

someone guess mine (if you listened to the entire comp my song should be easy to pinpoint)

sidewinder 08-12-2009 11:08 AM

I need to listen to it again because on initial listen I was a bit underwhelmed. Nothing stood out as that interesting or good. Except my track. :thumb:

But repeat listens could prove otherwise.

Piss Me Off 08-12-2009 11:13 AM

Teenage Fanclub was great, have been meaning to get that album for a while, I also enjoyed Beardfish as well even though it's not my usual kind of thing.

sidewinder 08-12-2009 11:15 AM

I actually didn't like the Beardfish track at all. I've heard one of their albums and think it's decent, but I think in general they suffer from not knowing what the hell type of music they want to play, especially on this track. It was all over the place and not in a good way for me. The album I've heard was more cohesive than this one track. Again, after just one listen to the track that is.

NSW 08-12-2009 11:17 AM

Willie Nelson - FlowerChild

did you submit the Teenage Fanclub track (just a little guess.)

Son of JayJamJah 08-12-2009 01:36 PM

So shocking that Bulldog would go all Elvis Costello on us...

It's probably my favourite song that Costello's ever sung. Shame you don't think so much of the rest of the album though - I actually think it's one of the guy's best.

I'll confess that I haven't listened to the comp yet. Kinda forgot about it really. I'm sure I'll give it a spin in a few hours though.

Only you hun! lol. Gotta pick something less obvious next time. :)

boo boo 08-12-2009 04:36 PM

I didn't submit a track this time. :(

Stone Birds 08-12-2009 04:37 PM

another hint for mine: PMO got the title of the song wrong.

They're a prog band, what did you expect?

Remind me never to recommend you a Mr. Bungle album.

I love Mr. Bungle. I also listen to a lot of prog.

This thing just didn't seem cohesive at all, just complete patchwork. I may listen to the comp again tonight, maybe I'll come out thinking something different.

sidewinder 08-12-2009 08:58 PM

I just finished listening to the Beardfish song again. This is what I heard:

Frank Zappa (lots of it)
Everlast (yeah that guy from House of Pain. Just a touch of this)
Clutch
cheesy American blues rock
country/western
Queen
Motley Crue

It's just a mess. :bonkhead:

Sorry Anteater. :D

Nooooope.

jackhammer 08-21-2009 05:21 PM

This months comp has been suspiciously quiet Re:guesses. No Comply- Alfred? I liked the Sebkha track but it was far too short. It sounded like a Bulldog track but he was guessed easily ;) so maybe Anticipation as he has a penchant for quality African music.

List of contributors please?

Piss Me Off 08-21-2009 05:27 PM

Guesses are wrong. I actually clearly remember putting the contributers up here so no idea what happened there..

Alfred
Anteater
Antonio
Bulldog
Flower Child
Jackhammer
Muzak
PMO
Sidewinder
Stone Birds
The Unfan
Zero1986

Edit: I did, they're on the 2nd page. Have them again!

jackhammer 08-21-2009 05:29 PM

Zero 1986 is Tennage Fanclub or yourself?

Yuuup.

Bulldog 08-22-2009 07:21 AM

1. Beardfish - South of the Border
Loved it. Such a fun yet complex tune. Kinda like Supergrass (though much less commercially-viable of course).

2. Violens - Spectator and Pupil
Decent little rocker this with a good riff. I wouldn't call it anything truly spectacular though. The vocals grate a teeny bit too.

3. Klaxons - Golden Skans
Not a huge fan of the Klaxons (I remember seeing them on Jools Holland once and they were bloody terrible), but this is a good song.

4. Elvis Costello and Allen Toussaint - Six-Fingered Man
Another one from the genius who submitted the Los Lobos song last month :D

5. Teenage Fanclub - Star Sign
Really didn't do anything for me. Sorry.

6. Willie Nelson - Night Life (Live)
Great, fun little country rocker here. Reminds me that I should get some Willie Nelson at some point too. Good call FC.

7. John Kamman - 40 Acres
One more of my favourites from this month's comp. Smooth vocals + great work on the guitar = top stuff.

8. Superchunk - You Can Always Count On Me (In the Worst Way)
Another one which, no offense to whoever submitted it, I really didn't like much at all.

9. Sebka-Chott - La complainte d'Yvette H.
I enjoyed this one a lot though. Great guitar and synth motifs going through it. I reckon I'll be on the lookout for this lot in future.

10. No Comply - Silencio
Great, minimalist punk rock here. The horns fit it like a glove too.

11. The Ecstacy of Saint Theresa - Watching Black White Looking
With the exception of my song, this was the highlight of this month's comp ;) Reminds me of a lot of the down-tempo/IDM stuff I've been listening to for the last few weeks and this is probably something else I should see about hearing more of.

Some guesses...

Ecstasy Of Saint Theresa - seems like something Sidewinder would pick
John Kamman - says Stone Birds to me
Klaxons - I'm gonna have a stab in the dark and guess this is your one, PMO

Stone Birds 08-22-2009 09:18 AM

Yep, you got me, finally.
:)
yeah most people should know i listen to folk and bluegrass music (as long as there isn't crapy vocals too it, so most bluegrass is out.)

also, if you really liked that you can download over 30 of his songs for free here: John Kamman (he chose to have it that way)
