Best band to come out in the last ten years?
 

Doesn't count if it's a band who reunited in the past ten years, just new bands who have come out in the past ten.

My vote is for Coheed & Cambria

although these bands are great too..

It's pretty hard to just pin it down to one.

Gorillaz had an fresh take on the trip hop sound. Coldplay and Muse both showed that you don't have to be completely original to make good music. And of the bands that came out of the post punk revival the notably ones are Arctic Monkeys, Interpol, TV on the Radio, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, and Franz Ferdinand. From the dance section of the music spectrum LCD Soundsystem, The Rapture, and Hot Chip.

tomahawk is the only 'new' band that i can think of from the last decade that has really retained my interest. unlike most bands formed by former members of 90s alt-rock groups these guys didn't stop pushing their envelope. they did run the risk into becoming just another leftover alt-rock band after their 2nd disc failed to really expand upon their debut, but with the release of their 3rd album 'anonymous' and the totally unique take on native american themes and rhythms fluidly amalgamated with modern instrumentation and studio capabilities the group proves they're quite capable to do more than formulaic rock music.

I disagree with this, but if you're going to say that, then you have to give U2 credit for their first two albums this decade. I mean, City of Blinding Lights is only slightly more original than Coldplay's music (it's clear that Coldplay take tremendous influence from them, but U2's last three albums certainly haven't broken any new ground musically), and slightly better than anything they did.

animal collective is a good call also, brand new, arctic monkeys, tv on the radio, kanye west, the gaslight anthem, interpol, mgmt, & mastodon would probably my top 10 of this decade.

Im obiously probably forgetting someone.

Very nice, mr dave. I expect nothing less than a description like this from you. You're the first person I've talked to in awhile that also listens to Tomahawk. They're not something I listen to on a regular anymore, but I revisit their self-titled the most out of the three releases. Mit Gas isn't as bad as you're making it out to be, though, I don't think. Quite the transition into Anonymous, which was exactly what I wasn't expecting from them. You're right, though. They've got a vibe about them that has always had me wondering when they'll be done. I look forward to more stuff, but Mike Patton seems to juggle so much ****, I wonder if a fourth album will be any good. I'm fond of the number 3, anyway.
