Bob Geldof is a ****

pooprider 01-19-2010 08:08 AM

Sure Morissey is a contestant, but his voice is also really charming in a nasally wAY

noise 01-19-2010 08:39 AM

i vote for Michael Stipe

MusicManRandy 01-19-2010 09:34 AM

I've forgotten the name of japanese ska-punk group...but their vocalist...gaaaah

Well, I agree in the sense that it annoys me that he had already released 5 or 6 classic albums by the time he was my age.

For me its gotta be Chris Martin....I saw Coldplay twice in one year (once at a gig, once at Glasto)...turns out twice a year is 2 x too often!

nicole scherzinger :usehead: can't stand her voice, maybe she and others may believe she's a singer, but she annoys me badly .

Wierd Al

I'm not crazy about Wierd Al, too strange for me.

scottsy 01-21-2010 12:23 PM

Nah, weird Al is an institution. He's been around for ages, waiting for new trends, eager to pounce with a witty satire, normally related to food or something absurd or toilet humor - related. I love the guy and he can gto on doing what he does forver as far as I am concerned...

Bono

bonobonobono.

****ing, bono.

duga 01-21-2010 10:03 PM

i really can't knock bono...

i criticize him for being so in your face but then i realize he is in my face for issues that actually do kinda matter.

then i feel like a ****.

What about that time he flew his hat half way around the world on it's own, in 1st class, because he forgot it.

Surely that annoys you?

only if you let that happen. they're not entitled to compromise aesthetics. besides, i only wish to participate in the hopes of getting exposure, not winning the actual competition. lisa mitchell was 6th place in 2006, she moved to the UK and signed with an indie label there and she's arguably the most successful out of all the contestant in the history of aus idol. i think the pay off is worth it despite the notoriety of idol.

When you put it that way, it doesn't sound too bad. Though it does make you feel like crap with teeny boppers voting for people like that Stan douche. Honestly anyone that butchers Nothing Else Matters the way he did deserves to be shot, arrogant prick.

What'sNext? 01-23-2010 09:02 AM

I say the man who ruined Let It Be. What kind of idiot takes the Beatles album with a no-overdub rule and ads choirs and orchestras. Phil Spector does.

scottsy 01-23-2010 01:24 PM

Oh well take comfort in the fact that he can't be doing much of that frm his prison cell now...

that's the most annoying part about idol; the show caters towards teenyboppers rather than a universal audience. it's glorified karaoke, and there's no reason for it to be so damn cheap. imagine having a competition show with a setting like the basement or live at abbey road; something like masterchef for bands/musicians. i met one of the top 24's a while back, apparently the level of freedom you have is **** (due to label licensing) and you choose songs several weeks in advance. you do skip all the ****ty parts if you become popular in the competition however... so that's what i'm aiming for. playing to a few drunk old people (with the occasional awesome gig) gets tedious.

Ahh that would be great to watch. Basement or Abby Road :D
- The contestants HAVE to write their own material too... with no ****ty 'judges' that are interested in the promise of $$$ but in the ability of the performer themselves hmm

Alright. No way. Fist of all she does NOT look like a rat. You used a picture of her blowing a kiss... not fair. And secondly, she's got a cool, unique voice. I don't know what kind of pubescent boys you've been hanging around with... Or what you sounded like going thru puberty.... But I did not sound like taylor swift. If I did, I would not be wasting my time on this post. I'd be listening to my PLATINUM record and bathing in money.

I really admire her for two reasons: Firstly: she's helping lead a country revival. Combining country sounds with catchy pop melodies and lyrics, bringing country slowly into the mainstream. Secondly: she's actually a decent person, unlike so many other faces in music.

As for my call on the most annoying person in music, i'd have to say right now it'd be jason derulo (the 'whatchya say' guy). His entire song is based on an imogen heap song. The chorus isn't even his for crying out loud!!! I can't respect a "musician" who rises to fame by stealing someone elses song. I'm ok with a little sampling here and there, but this is too far.

I really doubt that. You aren't considering the hundreds of musicians with more talent and creativity than Taylor Swift who happen to sound like her that just didn't succeed commercially like she did. It's incredibly ignorant to think that she has done so solely on her "cool, unique voice". It is more likely that through some astronomical irregularity she was spotted by a record company as someone who could sell a million records, recorded an album controlled by that company, and then sold a million records, talent aside.

Secondly, Country has been in the mainstream for years, and it is consistently some of the worst music out there. Mainstream country artists today like Rascall Flatts and Tim McGraw shame the great country stars of yesteryear, such as the genius Townes Van Zandt, Gram Parsons, and Johnny Cash.

Lastly, you have no idea how "decent" a person she is. The media wants to portray her that way, so she comes off that way. I'm not saying that she's a bad person, but you can't base your opinion of her on what you see and hear on the news.

and you're not considering the hundreds of mainstream musicians with absolutely no talent that somehow rank among taylor swift.

also, i'm not talking about "mainstream country" I'm talking abt mainstream mainstream. Like music you'd regularly hear on a pop music station. I agree that you can't compare Tim McGraw or any of these guys to legends like Johnny Cash.

And also I can base my opinion of her on what I see and hear on the news. How else am i supposed to have an opinion of her? I don't know her. I can't go to her house and see what she's like off the record. But I can judge her to be a decent person from what i hear of her. It'd be perfectly easy for her to make a fool of herself (just look at britney spears or kanye west at the vma's). Taylor swift has wisdom and self control...something that's always been lacking in the music world. It doesn't matter how greatly managed you are. When your in that kind of limelight you can't hide. And the media tries to make her look bad and tarnish her clean image. but shes on the ball. gotta give her some credit. I admire her. I'm sick of all these crappy immoral artists. If we're gonna put someone on a podium, it might as well be a taylor swift.
