Thats veritas.
The English legal system is based on Common Law, which has no grounding in the Roman Veritas system, other than stealing a few basic terms and descriptions. The English legal system is actually a one-off in that sense, developed independently across the middle ages, with no foundations from previous empires.

Latin as a language is no longer the dominant language anywhere in the world other than the Vatican.

Damn, this actually makes it look like I'm learning something.

And after a brief lapse back onto the topic of music, we go back to this.....

well, in a perfect world this thread would go back to the way it was in the beginning, with people having well throught out discussions and actually backing up they're opinions. Lately it's been a mix of pointless arguing and a debate over the origins of the english language and the prevalence of Latin in the modern wolrd. Since this has nothing to do wih music, I'd rather everyone just leave it alone and start some more intelligent conversation.

thats never going to happen, most of what could be said in this topic has already been said, people are just creating arguments now for enjoyment and to show off.
another things that bothers me about music today though....seeing green days mugs on every TV channel and every music magazine.

^ yeah, but that'll always be happening. If it's not green day, it'll be another band that the media latches onto until they're career starts slowing down, at which point they'll promptly forget about them only to focus in on another band. This new band won't bring anything new or substantial to the music industry, and the media will deem them the greatest and most influential rock band of our generation, hoping that we'll all forget that they've given that title to 15 other bands in the last 10 years.

Like they did with Limp Bizkit? In my quieter moments I almost pitied them.

^ well they've done it with so many bands it's hard to keep track. After a while the huge media hype really loses it's credibility. I mean, which band HASN'T been called a "new phenomenon" or deemed to be something "entirely new and innovative". It's turned in to a big joke. Look at all the major award ceremonies, the grammy's, american music awards, they all pick a group of bands that they decide are this years big thing, and then just circulate the awards among them.

That's true.

And dying helps too. If you die, then you sell records. I believe Buddy Holly and Richie Valens kick-started that trend.

I'm off to find La Bamba on DVD, that was a great film.

^that's very true, if you die, the record label is able to play the "he/she/they could have done SO much if he/she/they hadn't died so young" card.
