My fear with that is that it would end up looking very similar to a list from any number of magazines or whatever. Most recurring usually equals most popular equals most well-known, etc.

We can all mock lists made by various publications if we wish but if ours features albums voted in by members here, then what does it matter? We would all pick a different individual top 50 and disagree with a collective one but aslong as it's voted fairly then thats just the way it is.

That would be HORRIBLE!! I think you people need to let go of the fear that other people will like the same music you do. It's more than likely that the eventual list will end up featuring a number of well known albums, coz, you know, they're actually really good.

Yeah, I vote something like that idea.

Another idea is we recruit ten very diverse members. Like whoever would be the best advocate for progressive rock albums in the 2000's would be chosen, and then pick someone for hip-hop, someone for metal, etc. Ten members with ten different preferences could probably easily make a list of 200 and it wouldn't look anything like the NME list.

I wouldn't prefer those ten members to have the final say, though. Maybe we could open a poll thread where each of the people who made the base of the list could give their input in a paragraph as far as what they prefer and why, and then the community would chose from there. It sounds complicated but I think having representatives for MB would much better reflect the diversity of the site then someone going through 100 different top 50 lists to find similarities... and even then who has the final say?

Just saying... organization guys.

I'm not saying that would be horrible, just predictable to the point of not being useful.

Could make it easier, but that forces a set number of albums from each year, which may not be ideal. One year may have 20 amazing albums to choose from, another it may be tough to pick 5. Just a thought.

This is sounding like the HOF thread all over again.

Heres a novel idea. However we organise the polling of this thread, how about we let everyone have a say, however popular or unpopular their opinions may be with others and do it fairly for a bit of fun instead of over analysing the hell out of it.

This would be the Music Banter list of the 00's therefore everyone should have a say. Or at least members with a set amount of posts if we are gonna limit the contributors in some way. If your album doesnt make the cut, thats only because theres more members who prefer something else over yours.
