Sibling bandmates

I'm currently listening to some Orbital and I got to thinking that it's kind of neat when siblings get along creatively and make music. No special reason, but I thought it would be interesting to see just how many bands are made up of or include siblings. I'll start with a few I can think of.

Orbital - electronic duo consisting of Phil and Paul Hartnoll
The Knife - electro pop duo consisting of Karin Dreijer Andersson and Olof Dreijer
Stone Temple Pilots - rock band featuring brothers Dean and Robert DeLeo on guitar and bass
mewithoutYou - rock band featuring brothers Aaron and Michael Weiss on vocals and guitar
Oasis - annoying britpop band featuring brothers Liam and Noel Gallagher

...that's it off the top of my head.

lucifer_sam 11-25-2009 09:24 PM

off the top of my head...

Jesus and Mary Chain - Reid brothers, their first names escape me but they were the songwriting core.
Kings of Leon - Followill (sp?) siblings & cousin
Screaming Trees - The Mark Lanegan-fronted group had the Conner brothers behind it, who actually wrote the bulk of the music. i think one went on to fill in for bass in DJR sometime later
Creedence Clearwater Revival - Yep, John Fogerty had siblings in the band. None of which are worth remembering.
The Fiery Furnaces - Crazy ****ers Friedberger.
The Jackson Five - lol

Dr.Seussicide 11-25-2009 09:34 PM

Smoosh - American indie pop band from Seattle, Washington. They have released two albums, She Like Electric and Free to Stay. Both albums were written and performed by singer/keyboardist Asya (preferred name Asy, born February 2, 1992) and her sister, drummer Chloe (born March 5, 1994). Their younger sister Maia (born September 5, 1996) joined the band in early 2007. (wikipedia)

Dieselboy 11-25-2009 09:36 PM

Vinnie Paul and Dimebag Darrell from Pantera was the 1st to pop into my head.

Lookin through my cd's...
Doyle Wolfgang von Frankenstein and Jerry Only from the original Misfits line-up.

Sara and Sean Watkins play fiddle and guitar for the bluegrass band Nickle Creek.

Hmm...that's all I've got atm aside from the obvious ones. There's gotta be more. Gonna wiki a bunch of these bands :P

WeeLittleHobbit 11-25-2009 09:37 PM

The Cowsills- I'm sorry I had to mention them....

Dr.Seussicide 11-25-2009 09:38 PM

Oh and well there's Tegan and Sara - indie rock band, identical twins

Can't believe I didn't think of Pantera. And I didn't know that about the Misfits.

storymilo 11-25-2009 09:45 PM

Hmm... the one that first comes to mind is The Proclaimers.

And I fucking hate the Proclaimers.

music_phantom13 11-25-2009 10:10 PM

KMD - Rap band, with brothers Zev Love X (aka MF DOOM!!!) and DJ Subroc, this band was the ****... too bad for Sub :(
School of Seven Bells - New dream pop band with Alejandra and Claudia Deheza, 2 identical twins

Those are the first two that came to mind. Both of those bands kick ass.

Those chicks are hot. I didn't know they were sisters, though they do look alike I could definitely see a difference. I saw them open for Prefuse 73 last year. Looking at some pics now, and it seems obvious.

Wow 0_0

They look like younger versions of Katie Holmes or something...those bangs are really hot. ><

Also, adding AC/DC with Angus and Malcolm Young.

SATCHMO 11-25-2009 10:59 PM

Soulive - Al and Neal Evans
Van Halen - seriously...

Astronomer 11-25-2009 11:20 PM

I love Angus & Julia Stone.

And Cog are one of my favourite bands, made up of two brothers plus one of their good mates.

And who could forget The Finn Brothers? (Split Enz)

Yeah I was thinking Katie Holmes and Audrey Tautou.

BTown 11-26-2009 12:21 AM

Can't believe there hasn't been an Operation Ivy (Dave Mello, Pat Mello) or Meat Puppets (Cris Kirkwood, Curt Kirkwood) mention.

Janszoon 11-26-2009 12:22 AM

How about Cowboy Junkies? That's three siblings there.

Seltzer 11-26-2009 01:45 AM

For shame... no-one has mentioned these lads!

sidewinder 11-26-2009 02:42 AM

Doh!

simplephysics 11-26-2009 09:59 AM

The Fiery Furnaces are a brother/sister duo. I believe I've read their whole family is pretty involved with the band, apparently their grandmother is on some of the tracks from Rehearsing My Choir. And there's always the heavenly pairing of Yoni and Josiah Wolf for the band WHY?.

dac 11-26-2009 10:13 AM

Radiohead - The Greenwood Bros.

For shame - it's Jim and William.

Benny Benassi produces with his cousin Alle

Armin van Buuren performs with and also uses his brother Eller's guitar work in his songs.

Pettibon was never really an official member of Black Flag, he just did the artwork & filled in on bass before anyone of merit stepped in during the early years.

Urban Hat€monger ? 11-26-2009 01:58 PM

He was still their original bass player.
And he even named the band.

I think that merits an inclusion.

Zarko 11-26-2009 02:01 PM

AC/DC - Malcolm/Angus Young

The only one that I thought of when I saw the thread title.

pffft, you say tomato i say organic bulbous produce.

NumberNineDream 11-26-2009 02:39 PM

Savatage obviously.

The Monkey 11-26-2009 04:59 PM

Don't forget The Kinks - Dave and Ray Davies.

Ray did the vast majority of the songwriting and singing, but they really wouldn't have gotten anywhere without Dave's superb guitar playing, which played a vital role, especially during the first few years.

Bulldog 11-26-2009 05:10 PM

Tin Machine - Tony and Hunt Sales
The Stooges - Ron and Scott Asheton

...are a couple that spring to mind.

CanwllCorfe 11-26-2009 06:03 PM

Jonas Brothers

Right Said Fred

Why so much hate?

Proclaimers I'm sad to say is the only one I can think of, aside's from Oasis.

Dr.Seussicide 11-26-2009 06:32 PM

Don't think anyone mentioned Meg and Dia and ummm Straylight Run as well (John Nolan and Michelle DaRosa - brother and sister).

Rickenbacker 11-26-2009 08:22 PM

Shame these fellas haven't been mentioned! They came to my mind first thing.

http://reactionarycentury.files.word...beach-boys.jpg

Why it's the Beach Boys of course.

sidewinder 11-27-2009 11:09 AM

A new discovery today:

Smoking Popes - Band's core consisted of brothers Josh, Eli and Matt Caterer on vocals, guitar, and bass. They had 3 different drummers throughout the band's career.

PartisanRanger 11-27-2009 12:21 PM

No one mentioned the White Stripes yet? Jack and Meg White are brother and sister.

Are they really? I've heard so many different things about their relationship I just don't know what to believe anymore.
