i wouldn't necessarily call it crap but they're the Megadeth of stoner rock and Nick Oliveri is that scene's Dave Mustaine. he needs to get over the fact that he chose to get way too effed up way too often and that it's HIS fault he got kicked out of bands. stop trying to emulate the groups you were in and start doing your own thing without constantly trying to measure up to your past.

Seriously the guy plays guitar like a motherfucker, I want to hear some more dirty minor pentatonic riffs come out of that thing before he starts playing dull arena rock again.

I thought TCVs album was decent, some real sounds were coming out my speakers. Although I definitely think they can do better, that's why I want to see a second one.

Wasn't that keen on QOTSA's last album mind..

then you guys need to hope Homme moves out of LA. according to interviews he tends to write based on his environment and surroundings. EV is his reflections of having moved into LA as opposed to have to drive into it from the desert every other day (like on Songs for the Deaf).

personally i thought EV was the best Queens disc since R. Lullabies... on the other hand (with the exception of the amazing 'Someone's in the Wolf') - ZZZZzzzzzzzzz

i also can't really see another TCV album coming out. that thing had one shot deal written all over it.

Funny, cause I think Deaf and Lullabies are his best work.

As long as the QOTSA album is miles better than the Them Crooked Vultures album, I'll be happy. Also, they're supposed to re-release their self-titled album and play it on tour sometime.

I agree, Lullabies was pretty damn good. Those two and the debut are my favs.

Heh, it's funny how little agreement there is on QOTSA albums. I like Rated R followed by Songs for the Deaf the best.

Maybe it's the new cast that's been there the past few years, but the new material is starting to get stale. It's pretty obvious that the last few years lack the heavy bass & overdubbed chunky riffs that characterize Kyuss and early Queens. The overt focus on production is nagging my skull a bit too.

So the sound is changing but stale at the same time? Arrrrr...

I agree with this assessment. I just happen to hate the stuff that they're pushing now, it sounds like they try to do too much with it. It just lacks that characteristic Queens feel that I used to love so much...

Troy, Nick, Joey and Josh together on the same stage? Hell yessssss...

jacklovezhimself 04-15-2010 09:16 PM

I never really have had a problem with Era Vulgaris, although I do admit it isn't as good as any of their older stuff. Overall though, I can honestly say that QOTSA has been a band that has never disappointed me.

The favorites are definitely Songs For The Deaf, then their self-titled, then Rated R, then Lullabies to Paralyze, leaving Era Vulgaris at a modest last.
