Sounds like you're rating more on the sum of the parts than otherwise, then.

In interviews, the band used to say that their music on Nevermind reminded them of lullabies and childrens' songs. And then In Utero was more of a return to their more Indie roots, along with collaborating with Steve Albini. Probably why it wasn't as commercially successful.

Speaking of which, these people you're referring to, I imagine that Nevermind is the only Nirvana album they listen to? What do they think of a song like "Territorial Pissings"? or "Breed"? I guess they wouldn't even approach a song like "Tourette's" or "Scentless Apprentice". The "noisiness" of a band like AIC shies in comparison.

Ah, the myth of Kurt! And the best thing to ever happen to Courtney Love's music career! Yeah, and they were still selling Nirvana posters in Wal-Mart in 1997. No wonder he killed himself.

Pop, pop and never stop. I join you in a hearty guffaw. Or chortle, whichever you prefer.

I`ve never asked which Nirvana album they like, but undoubtedly we are probably talikng about "Nevermind" here and essentially the singles that came off it and eventually after excessive airplay and all the commotion were brainwashed into their minds. Songs like "Territorial Pissings" etc would most likely be songs that they would conveniently ignore. An album like "In Utero" would be totally inaccesable to them! So yer we are talking the singles here.

The first that comes to mind for me:

Every song is brilliant--On the Road Again and It's All Over Now, Baby Blue are my absolute favorites though. But it's hard to choose. They're all so good.

There's actually been a couple of albums lately that I'm feeling every single song.

Hollywood Undead - Swan Songs
Bowling for Soup - The Great Burrito Extortion Case (almost every album, but this one is the best)
10 Years - Division
3 Doors Down - Away From the Sun
Aiden - Nightmare Anatomy
Allister - Before the Blackout and Last Stop Suburbia
Any Blink-182 album, honestly
Bob Marley and the Wailers - Legend
Dropkick Murphys - The Meanest of Times
Fall Out Boy - all. I'm sorry. I love them - Live they suck. On album, awesome.
Goldfinger - any and all, but the best was Darrin's Coconut Ass
Hinder - Extreme Behavior
Jack Johnson - almost any
Johnny Cash - The Man Comes Around
Kings of Leon - Only By the Night
Linkin Park - any
Lynrd Skynrd - Second Helping

You know what, I said a couple and here I am writing too much. I'll stop here and add more later so it's not overwhelming. ;-)

Also, every American Pie soundtrack, but not sure those count as those are many artists and not every artists' album containing those songs is great.

There are some albums that I absolutely love, and tons of them. I gave up on rating albums a long time ago, but I at least have 10-20 five star albums I could think of... but not one album that has all five star songs. Not even the likes of Harvey, Cave, or The BoK (just a few of my fav's) have ever come out with an album I have heard that every single song is five stars... I mean, maybe, but your talking about a hypothetically perfect album here. I just don't think too many are out there, and if it was it wouldn't be DJ Shadow or The Beatles... that's for sure.

Nirvana has the best unplugged album.

+81 12-22-2009 12:35 AM

Yeah? Why is that?

music_phantom13 12-22-2009 01:41 AM

Oh one more, cities vs. submarines EP by Railcars is perfection. While the album gets even better when the songs are played together, not a track on the album falls short of perfection.
