Your album of the decade

For me, I'm going straight for Fear Of A Blank Planet. Nothing else in the last ten years comes anywhere near.

One of the greatest albums ever made, let alone this decade, the only thing that stops me from proclaiming it the best album of all time is that time has not yet ended.

Good god this is... breathtaking. Scarily so.

Though Buckethead's Electric Tears and Radiohead's In Rainbows come close...

Rickenbacker 12-17-2009 06:31 PM

Weaksauce, Bullet. Former Guns N Roses guitarist? No thanks. Not even if it was Slash.

Janszoon 12-17-2009 06:38 PM

Hard to say because there have been a ton of great albums in the past ten years, but I think I'd probably have to go with The Garbageman and the Prostitute by Kill Me Tomorrow. I love the hell out of this album and haven't grown tired of listening to it at all in the nearly six years I've owned it.

The Monkey 12-17-2009 06:38 PM

Just one? :(

According to last.fm, this is my most played album from the 00s.

http://www.rockinandblogin.com/lagra...ells-cover.jpg

While I don't listen to it as much as I used to, I still have to go with it. Runner-ups would probably be Is This It by The Strokes, Veni Vidi Vicious by The Hives and Show Your Bones by Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Overall a very good decade.

Buckethead is FAR from being 'ex guns n roses guitarist' first and foremost, he's a solo artist who landed a high paying session part. and even if he was, his solo work is WILDLY different to anything guns have ever done. Please at least endeavour to LISTEN to the album in question.

I think he was referring to Izzy Stradlin not Buckethead. I mean that's who the person above him was saying had the best album of the decade after all.

You make a good point sir. Somehow I had confused the issue and thought there were two seperate posts there. Can you tell its 6AM here?

I think it's the "best" or at least most essential album of the decade. Honestly, will it end up being my #1 favorite of the decade? Probably not...bias will come into play and I'd probably pick something that would seem ridiculous to anyone but me...but it's undeniable that Kid A is at least in the top 10 albums that defined the 2000s.

The White Stripes are 1, the other two close runners up.

Strapping Young Lad - The New Black

Certainly SYL's most accessible album to new fans, but it is so much more than that. It is a big fuck you to the music industry around them. It was a fuck you to Ozzfest, it was a fuck you to Century Media (Their record label), and most importantly it was a big fuck you to the New Wave of American Heavy Metal bands. I had just graduated high school when this album came out back in '06 and I managed to take the meanings of the songs and twist them to my own personal feelings. Everything about the album seemed to work for me, it was heavy enough to appease my cathartic tendencies, yet still retained the same melodic nature of Devin Townsend's solo work to do more than just act as a stress reliever. Perfect album for them to go out on.

Now keep in mind there are literally hundreds of albums on my hard drive from this decade so narrowing it down to just one is no easy task. I say The New Black is my favorite album of the decade this week but ask me the same question next week and I'll probably have a different answer with other reasons.

Ronnie Jane Devo 12-18-2009 09:28 AM

I haven't heard enough 2000s albums to have a really comprehensive view, but if there were any real milestones of the decade I'd think this would have to be one of them:

...Even if the band's name is completely ridiculous.

This album edges it out in front for me. This is the best album of the decade and one of the best albums i've ever heard. Words just can't describe how much passion and intensity this album has. I will never grow tired of this.

definitely would be high on my list too

Hmn, with all the indie and obvious stuff that gets nominated, I guess industrial folk pioneers Six Organs of Admittance get completely lost in the mix. Especially on their particularly fantastic 2006 album which has crawled its way up my list over the last year and a half or so.

holy shit. it's in the RS 'best of 2000s' list too.

jackhammer 12-18-2009 04:12 PM

I find this almost impossible and I could find many from lot's of genres so narrowing it down makes it more difficult. Here's one for starters:

I recently got into SOOA, but they're really quality stuff. That album especially could easily make this type of list.

Played it non stop for 9 years and i'm STILL not bored of it.
I don't think anything else comes close to it to be honest, Kid A wishes it was this good.

storymilo 12-18-2009 10:34 PM

^Is it anything like Screamadelica or Riot City Blues? Cause that's all I own by them, and I love those albums, but I've heard their style differs like crazy.

Rickenbacker 12-19-2009 06:10 AM

It's nothing like either of those albums.

It's nothing like either really, But saying that you can see that it's still the same band.

If it's any help Kevin Shields of MBV was one of their guitarists at the time so it's probably the noisiest most feedbacky Primal Scream album.

There's all sorts on that album, Electronica, Krautrock, Hip Hop, Jazz, Punk, even Bhangra.

It's well worth a listen if you like any of their other stuff.

i still think this album is better than Screamadelica. Accelerator might be the greatest anything anywhere. i think Keep Your Dreams is fairly rubbish though, i really hate it when Gillespie tries to play his hand at ballads.
