I've never heard them.
|
Of course they deserve to get in. Still making interesting music even now and I would say that most people could find an album of theirs likeable even if they were not big fans.
|
Holy Fleetwood Mac this is a Landslide 11-0
I might vote No now just to be different. |

That's just because two idiots voted against them for no reason other than anger towards to system...

I'm sure somewhere Boo Boo is breathing a sigh of relief.

We would've gotten an ear full if this was going the other way.

yesssss

I accept Yes's defeat, though I'm still a sad panda. :(
But anyone who actually votes no to King Crimson is just being an ass, well it's good to know you all haven't gone completely mad. ;) King Crimson are so damn good, unlike Yes they never really had any lowpoints in their career, they have so many good albums to choose from and they all have their own unique flavor. They have gone through god knows how many lineup changes but whoever's in the band it's always someone that's incredibly talented. Robert Fripp is truly one of the most innovative guitarists ever, and he's such an odd and very humble fellow too, just watch some interviews with the guy, he's like the last person you'd expect to have a rock band, let alone one like King Crimson. KC are so talented, they are such prolific musicians too, even if you don't like KC rest assured, Fripp, Belew or Levin have appeared in at least one of your favorite albums, no matter who you are, thats how highly demanded they are as session musicians. I think they're starting work on a new album with Gavin Harrison of Porcupine Tree as their new drummer, I'm pretty psyched about it, they've never had a bad album really, their worst album is ConstruKction of Light and even it's still decent. These guys are my number one band on LastFM too. Tough to pick a favorite, but ITCOTCK, Lizard, Red and Discipline are all way up there for me. |
Voted yes for King Crimson.
|
This is where the King Crimson love-in ends.
Some of the stuff i've heard by them is good , other stuff i've heard by them bores the shit out of me. Now I ask myself , do I want to put in a band into a hall of fame where i've only liked 50% of the material I have heard .. Answer No. So It's a no from me. And before you reply Boo Boo I didn't vote anything for Yes because in my opinion I hadn't heard enough to judge , In this case I think I have and I have voted No , I am not doing it 'to be an ass' i'm doing it because thats my honest opinion , like it or not. |
Ok thats fine, I figured you would. They're gonna win anyway so I don't care. (=
|
Yeah, I'd say my favourite band in the world deserve to make it through. :D
|
KC is the one band with a good sized discography that I still own every studio album from, because unlike most bands with more than 10 albums, even their weakest albums are still worth having.
For those wanting to get into this band, heres how I'd rank their work, in order. Great: ITCOTK Red Discipline Lizard THRAK Starless and Bible Black Three of a Perfect Pair Larks Tongues in Aspic The Power to Believe/Happy With What You Have to Be Happy With In The Wake of Poseidon Good: Islands Beat ConstruKction of Light |
Definitely Yes from me, in fact it was while reading Boo Boo's KC review thread that I decided to join MB. The strength of their body of work is impressive, and their contribution to the progressive rock movement was enormous.
ITCOTK Lizard Discipline Red Larks Tongues in Aspic My top 5 KC albums, I have all of their studio albums now and have been playing them constantly over the last few weeks. |
I'll probably write a nomination for The Kinks when I reach 100 posts if no one else is up for it.

The only bad thing about The Kink being nominated is the possiblity of them losing. I do not think I could handle it. |

So yeah, I think we should consider this a victory for King Crimson. :)
|
Really this is more a victory for Boo Boo then anything else.

i think its about time for the next nomination...
|
Yes. I'm not a fan of King Crimson but I think they deserve it. As far as influence/importance goes it's pretty unquestionable and alot of long-standing regulars here like them like boo boo and lespaul.
|
Should be a new potential nominee posted sometime today.
|
has anyone nominated porcupine tree yet? or do i need to take care of that?
|
King Crimson get in, 2nd most popular so far!
Next up a beautiful nomination from LesPaul43 Wu Tang Clan http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i1..._tang_clan.jpg Wuuuuu Tang Clan Ain't Nuthin Ta Fuck Wit. |
I'm gonna keep my motivation as short as the nomination.
Gangsta rap = NO |
First nomination where i need to listen to more before voting. I dislike most rap/hip-hop(although i do listen to some...) but I'm not goona let my bias take over yet. Lets see how it goes.
|
I'll include the solo **** in my evaluation, so **** yes.
|
Of course Wu Tang belong in a hall of fame.
They were completely unique & original and about the only mainstream hip hop band worth listening to in the late 90s early 2000s. The amount of talent to come out of that band is just staggering. I think of them as the first hip hop supergroup doing for hip hop in the 90s what those rock supergroups did for rock music in the late 60s. A definite yes from me. |
Quote:
I vote Yes, certainly one of the most important and original rap acts, and a lot of them have admirable solo careers, GZA especially. |

And I would say this is a yes for sure. I look at the bands already nominated Beatles, Zeppelin, JD, KC, Elliott Smith we have a wide range of genres but no Hip-Hop and there is little doubt in my mind that Wu-Tang best represents this sites taste in rap. I disagree with Urban's comparison to late 60's super groups however, (I'll take NWA in that category) they are more like the Eagles of Rap, (hear me out) a lot of individually talented members of a large group from the second generation of an emerging musical genre, many of which would go on to have excellent solo careers. Either way a for sure Affirmative from me. Even though they are not a top 10 rap favorite of mine. Kudos to Les Paul for a gutsy nomination post and this one is for you MB. |
I am unwilling to extract heads out of the asses of those who think that WTC is gangsta rap.
I don't really appreciate the veiled references to shitty 70s rock like the Eagles, but Wu-Tang is definitely one of the biggest pioneers of hip-hop (alongside N.W.A and The Beastie Boys). One of the biggest and best and one of my favorites. Hell yes. |
Somehow someone with zero posts decided to make their way into this thread. And voted no.
Fuck that. |
Quote:
For the record I never have considered them gangsta and found that post to be another example fo why I am still in favor of a post count limit despite the fact it is not the popular consensus. |
I was referring to The Monkey's post, but it was just a general statement anyways.
Big is the closest thing to gangsta rap I listen to. It just seems that when people hear a beat that wasn't ripped off a top 40 song or doesn't play like a cheesy synth pop song that it's considered gangsta. |
Word (I believe that is the correct response based on popular nomenclature)
|
I was going to vote no, but after reading all of the commentary here I will abstain from this nominee, I can't honestly say I would take the time and do a thorough review of Wu-Tang's music, I simply am not into the rap/hip-hop scene period and so I would not be an honest participant in this selection.

Just to make things clear, "gangsta" is a very loose genre for me, and isn't intrinsically bad. It simply denotes an anti-establishment mindset, though misogyny, homophobia and racism usually come with it, sadly. Wu-Tang Clan's songs tend to contain elements of the latter, which is why I voted no. |
