A felicitous description for the king of radical Jewish mindfuck music!

John Zorn certainly pushes the envelope and I admire his eclecticism. A yes from me.

scottsy 08-30-2009 10:23 PM

If I were to vote I'd probably vote yes at this point, since everyone here seems to be suggesting he is an artist of quite some distinction...it seems like he is probably in anyways!

Davey Moore 08-31-2009 09:43 AM

Never heard of him.

Piss Me Off 09-01-2009 07:09 AM

John Zorn is in then. Stand by for an induction round later on today.

scottsy 09-01-2009 09:25 PM

He sounds pretty distinguished given the rather enthusiastic backing he got here.. perhaps I'll have to check him out soon!

Bad Brains

http://blog.xlarge.jp/va/_images/obe...mb-500x374.jpg

Bad Brains were one of the founding fathers of hardcore punk, and arguably the most unique band to come out of the early 80's hardcore scene. The band is notable for incorporating Reggae and Rastafarian themes into their music. With their blistering tempos, technical guitar, and HR's signature vocal delivery, Bad Brains were in my opinion, the best hardcore punk band. They later went on to experiment with funk and heavy metal in addition to their energetic, Rasta-themed punk sound. Bad Brains have inspired and continue to inspire a wide variety of bands, including, but not limited to Beastie Boys, The Smashing Pumpkins, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Fugazi.[/QUOTE]

someonecompletelyrandom 09-28-2009 12:53 PM

Yes for sure! it's the cream of the crop for that old school hardcore punk sound.

Zer0 09-28-2009 02:14 PM

Bad Brains were the BEST hardcore punk band of the 80's. Rock For Light and their s/t are bursting at the seems with raw energy.

The Abominable Homan 09-28-2009 02:29 PM

I seem to be in the minority here (well, I'm the only one who has voted this...), but I voted no for Bad Brains. From what I have heard I have simply never enjoyed them, which I believe is the point to all of this. As for influence, originality, etc they deserve many honors and a spot in a hall of fame. But as this hall of fame is designed to reflect the tastes of the members here, I'm going to have to say no. Nothing against them, just not my thing I guess.

Piss Me Off 09-28-2009 04:18 PM

Bad Brains are one of my favourite punk bands, which is all the more impressive considering i only actually listen to the debut out of the studio albums, it's that good. One of my friends recently declared them 'scary' but there's a ton of hooks on that album, it's solid the whole way through. Not to mention Sailin' On which is one of my favourite songs ever hands down. One of the best nominations yet.

tgpo 09-28-2009 04:54 PM

Their debut is strong enough to warrant a Yes vote. And while their later albums suffered as they strayed from their original punk sound, the legacy of their first album can stand alone.

How is the fidelity of your copy of the debut? I have all of the other albums but that one because the last time I tried to download it it sounded like they were in a can.

debaserr 09-28-2009 06:36 PM

i didn't like the debut. but i am abstaining.

scottsy 09-28-2009 07:15 PM

Abstaining again.... lack of knowledge of band...

Alfred 09-28-2009 07:38 PM

Come on guys.

Do it for me.

Antonio 09-28-2009 07:43 PM

yes, not only for the debut but also for I Against I which I feel is a very underrated record.

scottsy 09-28-2009 07:53 PM

OK, so I fell off my place on the fence... and I voted yes, haven't heard a bad thing about them, and I've kinda always liked their name...hehehehehe.... weak reasoning, I know, but, eh...you gotta swing one way...

Rickenbacker 09-28-2009 08:06 PM

Yes oh god yes.

I have the CD album ripped at 192 kbps and yeah, it's pretty damn lo-fi. Not unlike most other hardcore recordings at the time to be fair though.

You can't vote if you haven't heard ANYTHING by them!

I would say yes, they were one of the most well known black punk groups and one of the best period. To be honest, they got me into reggae and hardcore punk and if anything both styles of music are polar opposites in both aesthetic and sound.

Engine 09-29-2009 03:14 PM

Bad Brains? Without a doubt, Hell Yes

Not one of, they are THE most well known black punk group.

someonecompletelyrandom 09-29-2009 05:06 PM

Being black has nothing to do with it. They made great music.

yea. if you voted them in because they were black then:soapbox:

Molecules 10-01-2009 04:44 PM

on the subject of black punk groups YouTube - PURE HELL
i dont know why you'd get your knickers in a twist about the race thing, it's only worth mentioning because punk has been such a predominantly white genre; answers as to why on a postcard. anyway Bad Brains were mental, great musicians and never afraid to switch it up with metal and reggae. big fat yes

Alfred 10-01-2009 05:01 PM

Punk. Musically, not idealistically or however you might draw the conclusion that Public Enemy is punk.

Urban Hat€monger ? 10-01-2009 05:04 PM

C'mon i'm just playing devils advocate :)

BTown 10-01-2009 05:27 PM

It kind of makes me want to punch a baby knowing that porcupine tree got 10 votes and nickelback got 14.

Anyway on topic I voted yes, I don't see how the Bad Brains aren't worthy.

And they are black, big deal. It's not like if The Beatles were all black they'd be better to me. But I'm sure if the beatles were black I'd hear about it non stop.

I think a lot of you are getting the wrong impression about people bringing up the fact that they're black. We're just sayin' y'know.

(Nickelback was a joke if you read the posts following the nomination)

scottsy 10-01-2009 08:57 PM

Nickelback and Joke.... two words that seem oddly comfortable occupying the same sentence.... :-)

someonecompletelyrandom 10-05-2009 04:02 PM

Bad Brains = in!

The Monkey 10-06-2009 09:38 AM
