Bizzare.

John Henry Hymns 01-12-2010 10:27 AM

I would have to say anything by the Residents are pretty bizzare. Maybe not that bizzare, but certainly weird and different.

BillyShears 01-12-2010 06:25 PM

Wild Honey Pie-The Beatles

John Henry Hymns 01-12-2010 06:36 PM

I thought of one more band with some extremely weird stuff.

Captain Beefheart & The Magic Band

Really crazy stuff.

Scissorman 01-12-2010 06:39 PM

colonel bagshot - six day war
it is also one of the best songs I've heard

ElephantSack 01-12-2010 06:43 PM

"Platypus", "After School Special" and "Mary Go Bye-Bye" by Mr. Bungle

I'm sure I'll think of more later.

Violent & Funky 01-12-2010 07:06 PM

Ya, anything by Bungle or Butthole Surfers...

Rexx Shredd 01-12-2010 09:05 PM

I had an eponymous album from the 70s called Christopher's Movie Matinee that was strange...........

I remember when I first ever started listening to Mr. Bungle I thought pretty much every song of theirs was weird.

someonecompletelyrandom 01-12-2010 11:53 PM

I like them. But there's one Mr. Bungle song, can't remember which, where he starts going to the bathroom at the end. The 12 year old me would have loved that but the 17 year old one just found it gross.

Ween puts out some really strange material. They are one of my favorite bands.

Beck had some strange music on Stereopatheticsoulmanure and Mellow Gold.

Aphex Twin (Richard D James) is way out there. It's so far out that it's had to understand and often hard to imagine that what you hear is actually music.

Foetus had some weird stuff in the 90's.

Michael Patton puts out some very interesting music.

For strange Hip-Hop, I'd look at the Anticon catalog and Definitive Jux. Lots of great stuff in there, but often very strange.

It would be hard to choose which is the "strangest", but if I had to, I would probably pick something by Aphex Twin.

I love Mr. Bungle but this is up there for me... Especially from 2 mins 30 seconds to 3 mins 15 seconds.

ElephantSack 01-13-2010 07:03 PM

^ I love that song. Not nearly as weird as anything from Disco Volante, in my opinion.

someonecompletelyrandom 01-14-2010 01:58 PM

I've got some odd albums in my Zorn collection. Not really straight up weird but very conceptual and a little disturbing at times. The Painkiller albums in particular give me the feeling of watching a Forensic Files marathon or something

ElephantSack 01-14-2010 02:02 PM

Zorn is a crazy bastard. A little bit of Naked City will clarify that.

A few more I thought of today are "Hail Santa", "On the Tweek Again" and "Grandad's Little Ditty" by Primus

Yeah if any Mr. Bungle song is going to be singled out as weird (they all are to some extent) it should be from Disco Volante.

Yeah, when you get him and Gabby Lala on stage together, its bound to be fuckin' crazy. Oysterhead had some pretty crazy tunes, but nothing that was any crazier than Primus in their most outlandish moods, in my opinion.

Very intense stuff. I used to have all 59 albums but unfortunetly they were lost. I like it when John fuses that little touch of grindcore into the jazz based improvisations, and I think Mike Patton was the vocalist for a couple of the albums... the guy goes freaking nuts.

Yeah, really cool stuff. I've seen a couple videos with Patton on vocals. And the grind/jazz fusion was something unheard of, but definitely needed to be tried.

Also, Fantomas anyone?

heatherfeather 01-14-2010 06:02 PM

Animal Collective songs are very "weird" to me... im sure yall know of ever weirder songs though lol

Petula07 01-15-2010 08:19 AM

Reagge from Iceland :D

Also Mongolia has weird music...

And The Lotus Eater by Opeth was something really strange for me.

Now after listening all of this, I love weird music more and more :)

Time for my obligatory Scott Walker-related post of the day.

^ Not really that complicated a song in any sense, but damn...

Rickenbacker 01-29-2010 02:18 PM

Carrying on the Scott Walker trend... as an instrument, the Donkey has never sounded so...weird.

Vancouver 01-29-2010 04:22 PM

my name is Mud - Primus.

Anything by Arnold Schoenberg.
Music without a key signature. Like microtonal music, but sounds good.
