Most narrow minded one genre fans are the worst by far and no specific band is culpable.
As a whole I find metaheads and Indie only fans annoying. Some fanboys are fine as long as they take another point of view onboard but that rarely happens. I am a huge John Martyn fan but if someone doesn't like him it really doesn't bother me one bit. I have better things to worry about but narrow minded music fans DO annoy me. It's not a pre requisite to like everything under the sun but if you do listen to pretty much a single genre then you should at least be respectful of other peoples tastes and knowledge. |
i don't find metal fans annoying at all. sure, i personally don't understand why you would only want to listen to the most brutal possible music all the time nonstop...but it would be wrong of me to knock them because a lot the metalheads i meet truly love the music they listen to and listen to a wide range of metal bands. who am i to knock what they obviously put time into exploring and have a deep connection to? i may not be able to relate in certain ways, but i understand.
in lieu of everyone mentioning tool, radiohead, muse, and other bands...i'll throw one out i don't think i have seen mentioned yet. metallica. cause like...james hetfield is like..the fastest down picker on the planet man...ON THE PLANET |
You don't find metal fans annoying but Metallica fans annoy you? not sure what you mean here. I come from a Metal background and after a few years found them to be so narrow minded beyond belief. I still listen to and love Metal but there is a ton of music out there that is just as heavy and intense if they gave it the time.

as far as metal as a genre only fans...the level to which they explore metal is comparable to what i would explore in other genres. like i said, i can't relate since i don't listen to that much metal...but i respect that they have found a genre of music that really intrigues them. i do agree with you, though...i could never stick to just metal. |

Perhaps it was a blessing in disguise though as it pushed me to listen to more genres and be comfortable with it. |

though they don't really annoy me, that doesn't mean i don't find it strange that they don't want to expand even a little bit... |
typically, the metal folk I know are the nicest bunch of lads around. Whenever I see them(some of the closest ones play in one of sa's biggest death-metal band) and they are always top-class, although I do listen to a ****load of metal which would technically classify me as a metalhead, I listen to alot of other genres too and (I know it doesn't define a metalhead) but I don't wear the jeans, shoes and black t-shirt like most of them do, which makes me standout like a sore thumb at all times. Do they care? No.
|
I would say the majority of music nerds i know could be classified as a metalhead but they don't just stop there. They are into much more music than that. Personally i agree that alot of metalheads annoy me because i can have an intelligent discussion about music with alot of them until i metion a band that isnt metal.

Which, and not to go off onto a tangent rant here but let's face, it is untrue. I'm not saying this because I'm naive or narrow-minded but the only people after school is over who still listen to this band hit puberty and then forgot to let it end somewhere down the line. Grow some ****ing brains and stop acting as if these blokes are anything special, they're a musical footnote in the grander scheme of things and that is all, they are not anything more than that. |
Tool.

I am one or the band has annoying fans? :p

Doing this really pisses off Pantera fans...

Or this: http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/wik...Oldschoolp.jpg Ah, such badasses. |
I'd probably have to go with Tool fans that think those who don't like Tool just don't understand why Tool is great.
|
It also pisses me off how Dinosaur Jr. fans will **** themselves over J Mascis and Lou and Murph don't get recognized as much. I suppose Lou does with Sebadoh but I think Murph is a really underrated drummer.
|
A guy at my high school was always making fun of hardcore Led Zeppelin and Beatles fan.
The ones that think they're gods. |
Out of that list, I'd say Radiohead. Sorry. But some people really worship everything they do...
|
Nirvana fans, easily.
|
Like dac? Anyway, Where's the Nine Inch Nails fans?
|
And silly Tiesto fans...
|
|
I'm gonna have to go with Tool on this one...
Mind you, I really do like Tool a lot. But... just, come on. Some people just get stupid about it. I realize this goes for the die-hard fans of pretty much any band... but Tool's just seem so much more pretentious. |
what the hell? i thought this would be mocking stupid pop bands around today who insist they're "rock"? i love most of those bands u listed, but granted people who play guitar hero and then think they are musically educated piss me off
|
Out of that lot, Beatles fans. There are some hardcore nutters among them who give the rest of us a bad name.

I may be a bit biased though, one of the biggest Smiths fans (besides myself)) I know is such a ****ing prick, he actually believes he is going to be the next Morrissey. It's not all of them though, and I know I'm not like that at all (second favorite band, yesss) and a lot aren't, but I just know a lot of really douchey fans of theirs. |

Smiths fans are not the problem.
Now Morrissey fans, thats a totally different story. |
I'd have to say fans from Guitar Hero, I know many people like that and they are very annoying........

I like open minded listeners although maybe they seem to be crazy. I saw on Last.fm one girl who has in top 20 strange and funny mixture - Michael Jackson, In Flames, Metallica, Britney Spears, Radiohead, Porcupine Tree, KoЯn, Avril Lavigne :D I am open minded too but not so 100% :D |
Radiohead and The Beatles. Simply because those bands get so much critical praise, so the fans are convinced that they listen to "the best music".
|
Kaiser Chiefs fans, although they don't really have fans anymore  Same goes for Fratellis fans, Killers fans or Kings of Leon, but Kaiser Chiefs seem to be the best example. You know the types; they have no actual interest in music, they work in a sports shop and just hear their singles on the radio all the time and think "yeah! that's banging tune". Some might actually buy their album. The funniest thing is when Kaiser Chiefs are playing a festival most of their 'fans' only know their singles and when they play an album track they're like "what's this? play a song we know!" while behaving like drunken a$$holes. Now these fans have moved on to Kings Of Leon :)
