If you had all your records stolen....

Could I argue that this is essentially a "what are your top 15 records of all time" list?
And I'll add that it sounds like you're about my age. :p: |

I'm 38..you? |
I would cry my little girly eyes out and not be able to start again really, a lot of my LPs have good memories attached to them, not just what's on it but how I came to have them.
For example, when I was 14 I was skipping school with a girl who'd only been friends for only a couple of days, and we stopped into the little record store in town, and come to find my favorite record is in, Sandinista!, of course. I've never seen Sandinista! vinyl in this city and it was in great condition, but I had no money and knew it would be gone if I didn't get it that day. So, my friend tells me that she'll put half down on it so I wouldn't lose the chance to have it. It was one of the kindest things anyone had done for me, because she could tell how much it meant to me. |

this exact situation happened to my roommate about 10 years ago. the physical replacements for his collection have been very few and very far between since. can't say i really blame him though. |
I'd only get my singles back.
|
Just like duga said, I'd just get them as I became in the mood. I know it wouldn't be very long before I reacquired these though.
Joy Division - Unknown Pleasures The Unicorns - Who Will Cut Our Hair When We're Gone? A Name Unheard - S/T The Cure - 17 Seconds Dinosaur Jr. - You're Living All Over Me Death From Above 1979 - Heads Up Attack in Black - Marriage Fugazi - Repeater Lightning Bolt - Hypermagic Mountain Eric's Trip - Forever Again The Locust - New Erections Lullabye Arkestra - Ampgrave Wintersleep - Untitled Andrew Jackson Jihad - Only God Can Judge Me Minutemen - Double Nickles on the Dime Partially due to their greatness and my desires for the moment. Also not including stuff I don't physically own. |
I couldn't even decide which 15 Fall albums i'd want to keep, let alone every other band too.
|
Operation Ivy - Energy
Dinosaur Jr. - You're Living All Over Me Wu Tang Clan - Enter The Wu-Tang Soundgarden - Badmotorfinger Pixies - Surfer Rosa Minutemen - Double Nickels On The Dime JFA - We Know You Suck Fugazi - 13 Songs Drive Like Jehu - Yank Crime Descendents - Livage! maybe Dirt - Alice In Chains....can't think of anymore as of now. |

You're kidding.
It's those beats, man. Those beats are sick. Excursions samples Art Blakey, Jazz (We've Got) samples Freddy Hubbard's Red Clay, and coolest of all, Scenario samples Davis' "So What", the Ohio Players, Kool & The Gang (TWICE) and Jimi Hendrix. This might not mean much to you, but that is revolutionary. Not to mention, Tip's lyrics are some of the best of the genre. Audacious and thought provoking, yet restrained. Code:
Planted on the ground, the act is so together |
The Smiths - Meat Is Murder
The Clash - London Calling The Shins- Wincing The Night Away Jeff Buckely - Grace The Zombies - Odessey And Oracle The Kinks - Arthur (Or The Decline And Fall Of The British Empire) The Stone Roses - The Stone Roses R.E.M. - Murmur Sex Pistols - Never Mind The Bollocks, Here's The Sex Pistols The Chameleons - Script Of The Bridge Led Zeppelin - Physical Graffiti The Smiths - The Smiths The Cure - Seventeen Seconds Bob Dylan - Blonde On Blonde David Bowie - Aladdin Sane |

trick question.
I'd buy a gun, and a dog. |
Isn't this the same as "your top 15 albums" or "15 albums you'd take with you to a deserted album"?

After thinking it through, a few come to mind for various reasons.
Yes - Close to the Edge - Not an album I like to really listen anymore, but I'd just have to have this one again. It was not only what started my collection, but it made me very ambitious. I picked it up a few hours away from home when I was 13 or so, and the owner told me it was an original press that he just wanted to sell for about 6 or 7 dollars. Truth be told I had no idea if he was lying or not, but the cover was aged so I took it. He ended up being sincere, and it's something I could never let go of. Just that whole feeling of '**** YES I'M INTO VINYL'. Explosions in the Sky - The Earth is not a Cold Dead Place - Basically just because it's the most beautiful album I've ever heard played on a record. I bought it when I was literally going through a post-rock obsession (although I strongly believe TEINACDP is the only EITS album worth writing home about). This album speaks so much when it's on the stand. Dead Kennedys - In God We Trust, Inc. - I really like this EP and all, but I just could never let go of my copy, even though it's a boring repress. I brought this in when I did a speech on Jello Biafra in English class and everybody thought I was the coolest kid on the block for the hour. Jello would totally be ecstatic that I use music to gain some form of popularity, he'd be ecstatic! John Coltrane - Sun Ship - Badass half-way to free jazz Coltrane.Sounds pristine, the cover is something I find myself looking at for hours, and I practically begged to afford it. It's a repress, as well, but it's still damn lovely. |
I've started my music collection over from scratch at least a handful of times. While I don't think ahead long enough to know what my next 15 albums are going to be, it become a ritual to acquire Pink Floyd-Animals, Beethoven's Piano Sonatas 14, 23, 8, and Miles Davis-Bitches Brew as my first three acquired albums.

Alright, let's see. Seeing as how were just starting over, meaning these would be the ones to tie me over until I restore my collection to it's former glory...
Between the Buried and Me - Colors Pink Floyd - Animals Opeth - Deliverance Mr. Bungle - California Grails - Doomsdayer's Holiday Jimi Hendrix Experience - Are You Experienced? Dead Kennedys - Plastic Surgery Disasters Alice in Chains - Dirt Soundgarden - Superunknown Tool - Aenima Porcupine Tree - Deadwing NOFX - Pump up the Valium Bad Religion - All Ages Primus - Pork Soda Tom Waits - Real Gone I made it a point not to name any artist more than once. |
