Maybe the most important reason not to delete music.

Don't have the money or HD space to backup? Easiest solution is DVD'S. You can get approx 35-40 albums on one disc in mp3/wma etc format. burn it onto a disc and then just shove it in a cupboard. Still back up and carry on as usual but you know there is always a good back up ready. Never lose music again.

This is the way i was going to go but i can't for the life of me work out how to back up just my music folder alone, it keeps making me back up my entore hardrive AND my C-drive with all my programs and stuff.
Plus, i'm going to need some more DVD's.

jackhammer 09-13-2008 05:55 PM

I think you have to back up the whole drive but I have never done it TBH. You not have a poundland? 4 dvd's for a quid? not the best quality but as for rarely used storage they are fine.

I have my music backed up many times:

I burn winrar files to DVD when I have enough.
I burn MP3 ETC files to DVD'S.
I have a 250gb portable HD that runs by USB only, so no power is used.
My favourite and rare albums are backed up online for free. PC World do a gb back up for free with the option to upgrade.
I burn my fave albums straight onto C.D's so obviously they can be ripped back.

Aghhh hassle. 10 for a quid with cases! I'll have to get some more i suppose. My musics on a portable hardrive at the moment because my laptop memory is far too small to carry it all which is a pain, i've considered getting another 100gb hardrive for back-up before actually but my bank balance might put that idea to rest!

how much cash did you spill into that collection?
geez those record companies should buy you a porsche or something

I couldnt put a price on it really. Alot of "hard-to-find" and/or OOP stuff. LOL, I wish, most of the time, when something get's "re-released" by one of my favorite groups from the '80s, Ill wait till I have the new cd in my hands, then I'll dump the old one(s). That collection has been over the last 2 1/2 years too, I'd like to get about 1,500-2,000 more. I will, slowly but surely.

I also have a 500GB EHD with about 9,000 songs on it, for now. I'm slowly adding to it.
